Citing sources

Post by Greyplover » 20 Mar 2022 08:45

I've been using FH for nearly 20 years at a fairly basic level but have always kept it up-to-date. Since installing V7 and updates I have become increasingly irrtitated - a state that seems to become more prevalent as one enters the 4th quarter of one's eighth decade :)

When I add a source citation - Add citation - site existing source - select source - OK
the source record window immediately opens over whatever I am working on.

It disappears as soon as I click anywhere but I fail to see the need for it in the first place.
I know that it is a confirmation that you are adding the correct source but I don't think I have ever cited the wrong source and so I find it very annoying.

I've looked for a way of turning it off but cannot find any relevant setting. I'm sure there must be one so any help will be much appreciated.
Yours grumpily
Dennis
BTW I am using Windows 11

Hi Dennis.
You are not alone. Many newcomers to FH V7 take a while to come to terms with the new popup floating Citation Window.

It effectively combines the Source record fields with the Citation specific fields that were at the bottom of the yellow Sources For pane in all previous FH versions.

If you never add any details to the Citation itself, then I can see that the popup Citation Window is superfluous.
What you can do is drag its borders to make it small and drag its position to where it is not annoying, just like you can resize and reposition any Windows window. FH will remember that new size and position.
It will still open but will be tiny and less irritating.

See FHUG Knowledge Base Sources and Citations in Version 7 (for Upgraders).

Don’t worry about late 8th decade. Some very regular contributors aren’t far behind, and I suspect that the majority of replies are posted by us folk comfortably into at least our 7th...🙂

Thanks Mike
I believe this is called a 'work round', but it would be better to have an option.
Anyway, one less irritant.
Keep smiling
Dennis
