how to download queries

Post by fhtess65 » 12 Mar 2022 18:25

I was watching a video that mentioned downloading queries from the FHUG website, however, I can't figure out how to do it...When I right click and choose Save Link As, it gives me a .htm file, which doesn't seem right. Or am I misunderstanding?

Simply click on the query to download it, then click the download to install it

Where it says: Download: All Empty Facts just left-click the blue link and it should automatically offer install into FH.

Yes, no need to 'Save Link As'. Click on the download link, and then double-click on the downloaded file to install it.

This may be browser dependent and doesn't work in e.g. Edge. What browser are you using Mike?

Thanks, Mike - so that downloads everything? Or just that one query?

Thanks, Neil - I think something went wrong the first time I left-clicked, which is why I tried a right-click. Got it now :D

Doesn't work in Firefox either.

I'm using Firefox. but it seems an update may have changed its behaviour slightly. However, left-click still achieves the download and FH installation of one Query at a time (or whatever other download you choose).

Mike,

I'm not sure I understand. In Firefox, if I left click that link, it downloads the query, but it doesn't install it. I have to click on the download to install it. Same thing in Chrome.

Mike,

In the Firefox settings for Applications do you have .fhq files set to open in FH? I'm trying to figure out why FH would try to install the download automatically.

Typically FH would be the program to open .fhq files, but you would still need to open,

Perhaps Mike has some other customisation -- Mike?

That is why I wondered if he somehow had set the Firefox settings to automatically open .fhq files when they are downloaded. I don't have that set in my Firefox settings.

Yes, in Firefox the Settings for Applications are set to Use Family Historian (default) for all the FH file types, but as far as I can remember that was established automatically many years ago presumably derived from the Windows default applications.

Interesting that some of us don't seem to have those settings in Firefox.

Do you mean your Firefox does not have Settings in the General section for Applications with a table of Content Type version Action OR that it does have those setting but the FH Content Type and Actions are not listed?

Sorry I wasn't clear. I do have settings at that location, but the FH Content Type and Actions are not listed.
