If I upgrade to version 7 from version 2 is any data conversion completely automatic? Thank you.

The short answer is "YES" FH V7 will 'convert' your FH V2 GEDCOM file and retain all the data.

The longer answer is that you will take rather longer to convert to the many years of updates in FH V7.
I advise that you spend some time with the Family Historian Sample Project and became familiar with the new features.
When you have FH V7 installed we can suggest where to start your learning curve...
It would be wise to do that before using your FH V2 GEDCOM to avoid too many mistakes :D

Thank you for your prompt reply. We will get V7 installed and I will look at the sample project as advised. Then I will come back and ask for some more help.

... as Mike says, but experiment importing/converting your data and see what it looks like, play with it, work out any new data structures, nomenclatures, try new features before committing to that final import. Also check out the latest plugins and especially Ancestral Sources. Be patient, enjoy the playing, it should take at least weeks, it took me months, but it was worth the effort up front.

Pedantically, Ancestral Sources has been around for 12 years (and my earlier 'Gedcom Census' was released 18 years ago) and AS works with earlier versions of FH including version 2 so Sylvia may already use it! :)
