Media not showing correctly

Post by Hanning » 23 Feb 2022 02:59

I use a system of small media files to give a visual indication in the Focus Window of my deductions concerning relationships - one of which is what I call my No Descendents icon. I've made a transparent png, and also tried a jpg with the same colour background as my Focus Window but both images show with a white background. As you can see, it looks fine as a coloured jpg in the media window. The png comes out with a black background in FH, although not in any other application. Is there anything I can do to change this?

Related: Sometimes I have chn baptised where the mother is not named, but I have either a marriage or a burial for a woman that I think is the mother. I would like to have a visual marker in the Focus Window that reminds me that the marriage is Assumed/Likely/Proven (although with no marriage entry) but cannot find any other way except to mark the marriage status as Unknown. In the absence of being able to show flags, or any kind of conditional formatting in the Focus Window, or to make a marriage media item visible in the Focus Window, does anyone have any other ideas?

Unfortunately, it is a long-standing limitation in FH that it does not support transparency in its media display.

I have a similar system, where I show Individuals who "disappeared" with a question mark. I have settled on a png file with a white background, as it looks fine in pdf reports, even if the screen appearance is a bit crude.

Marlene, when the Focus Window is displayed do you also have the Property Box of the in Focus couple displayed?
If so, then there are many customisation options for the Main tab of the Property Box that may work for you.

The Property Box cog Menu > Customize Property Box... feature is where to start some adjustments.

1) You could replace the Shared Details: Marriage Status & Address with Shared Details: Marriage Status & Note
That Note is on the Family record and could explain anything about the relationship that you want.

2) Any Individual Record Flags can be shown in pairs with a tick option to set or clear them and indicate which ones are set.
As an example, add the Living & Private predefined item and model any custom Flags on that entry by using View/Edit...

Thank you both - yes tatewise, I have customised the Property Box with flags and window title amendments, but will investigate the marriage notes more fully.
