Change fact name

Is there any simple way to change the name/type of fact while leaving the date & place intact? I have some imported family that uses Christening, when, for consistency if nothing else, I prefer it to be Baptism. It’s not a great issue, or indeed too much work to do it manually, but it could make life simpler!

The Change Any Fact Tag plugin is designed to do exactly that. The interface is a bit complex, but Christening to Baptism is one of the standard conversions.

Excellent. I shall give it a go (although I’ve not been adventurous to try plug-ins so far).,

If you are comfortable with editing the Gedcom file directly then, (Making a backup copy first), use a basic text editor to do a simple "find and replace".

I used this technique with great success when I wanted to change the prefix for 1200+ custom ID records In a Gedcom I had imported into FH from Family Tree Maker.

I recommend you do not use "Replace All" - It is safest to use "find next" to find the first incidence (or skip any you want to keep), and use "Replace" to replace a selection and find the next instance.

I did actually take the plunge and used the plug-in - worked like a dream!
