I've done all that Lorna but I'm guessing that I have to use 'private' in the drop-down list for the flag? :?:
Where do I find all the flags now?

You will need to create 16 new flags, one for each branch. When you use Tools > Named Lists and Record Flags you can type the name of a new flag in the Record Flag box. When you click Perform Action you will get a message saying "Flag not found. Create new flag?" click OK and the new flag will be created and set on everyone in the Named List. Repeat for each of the 16 Named Lists, creating a new flag for each list.

John, are you still stuck? I hoped I had answered your question. The ‘private’ flag you mentioned has nothing to do with it. You need to create a new flag for each of the 16 branches. When you use Tools > Named Lists and Flags as I described a new flag will be created and added to all the records in one of the Named Lists. It will appear in the drop-down list after it has been created.

I suggest that you use the surnames of each of your 16 great-great grandparents as the names of the 16 flags. If any of them happen to have the same surname you will have to distinguish them in some other way.

When you have added flags to the members of each branch you will be able to run a new custom query on the Named List you created for the people who have known DNA matches with you. (If you haven't got that list any more, run the Where Fact Used query again for your DNA match fact and select the all the records in the Fact Owner column and then Add Selected Cell Records to Named List.)

The attached query will prompt for the name of your DNA matches list. The Result Set has a column to show which flag or flags each member of the list has. (As I explained before, people who are closer to you than your great-great grandparents will have more than one flag.)

Run as you said, Lorna but after many attempts, I can't see the 'flags' against the DNA matches for each branch?
Does an actual flag show up in my tree?
:?: :?:

The flags will show up in the Results set of the Named List Members including flags query, when you run that query on the Named list you created from the Where Fact Used query.

Earlier in this topic you said:
'Where fact used' worked very well. Now is it possible for me to add a comment as to which branch of my tree the DNA match is from?
This is what the flags are doing - they are the indicating, in the Query results, which branch(es) the DNA matches come from.

If you want the flags to show up anywhere else in your tree you will need to explain where you want to see them.
