Hello Everyone,
Unfortunately I have been away from FHUG and family history in general for a while through illness, but I'm back at last.
The difficulty I am having is trying to install my Family History software onto my new desk top with windows 11. I started with my original version 2.1.8, it wasn't recognized at all. I tried all the upgrades I have from 3 to 5 and all those in between without success. Can anyone advise me what route I should take to install the software I have.
The machine I have is a Dell desk top (new).
It has Windows 11 installed (bit of a struggle).
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful, thank you very much.
Peter

Re: Unable to install my Family History on new computer
First of all you can discard all the old FH versions 2 to 4 inclusive.
You need the installation media you purchased for the V4 to V5 upgrade (either download or CD boxed version).
Nothing else will work.
You need the licence keys for both FH V4 and FH V5.
When you install the FH V5 media it will ask for those two licence keys.
There is further advice at https://www.family-historian.co.uk/support/faq-inst for Version 6 or earlier.
If you need more detailed specific advice then please ask again, but tell us whether a download or CD installation media.
It is much the same as when you asked in 2018 about Installing version 2 on new laptop (16399).

See the FHUG Knowledge Base Family Historian Copy and Migration Guide that explains how to copy both your Projects and your custom settings from PC to PC.
Are you planning to run FH on both the old PC and the new PC?
If yes, then have you considered how to keep them in sync with each other?

Re: Unable to install my Family History on new computer
Hello Mike,
Thanks for the link to the migration guide, I've been away too long.
I wasn't going to keep both pc's, the older one makes some odd noises now and again so I was going to donate it to one of the charities who wipe the disc to a high standard, refurbish it and pass it on to a good home.
Thanks again for your patience,
Regards
Peter
