Generic Citation Entry Fields Missing

Post by Gary Carson » 25 Jan 2022 17:46

With Sources enabled I get this view of a generic citation.

I recently had to reload FH and have lost the "Text From Source: field and Note: field

How do I get these to appear to be able to fill them in from the Sources enabled view?

Presumably, you did not use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin to preserve your customizations.
If you had then you could have simply restored them after reloading FH.

I'm a little confused because you say you have lost the Text From Source: field and Note: field but they are in your screenshot, so was that taken before you reloaded FH?
Or are you talking about the Prepared Citation specific version of those two fields lower down?

Try using the cogwheel shown in your screenshot and choose its Menu > Customize Citation Window... option.
There you can add the Citation specific Text From Source and Note fields as you did before.

Or perhaps you mean the Text From Source and Note fields are empty?
That is because the Prepared Citation details are held in the Header record of the Project GEDCOM.
If the Project was not saved with that Prepared Citation setup then it cannot be recovered other than by entering all the details again, unless it happens to be in a Backup or Snapshot.

I used the cog wheel to reset the Citation specific Text From Source and Note fields. Problem solved. And it appears to have fixed the same issue on other generic citations.

PS: I had not use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin prior. The hard drive crashed. You steered me to this after an earlier post. I know run the plugin frequently now.

Again thanks for the help. Always appreciated.

Yes, the Menu > Customize Citation Window... settings apply to all variants of the Citation Window and its Source Record settings apply to the Source record Property Box too.
