Citations-Generic type

Post by Johnr65 » 16 Jan 2022 14:00

It seems that inadvertently I set up a generic type as '1881 Census.' I've tried to avoid adding anything to it but it appears that it has 5000 plus now and when I look at some of the citations the generic type is shown as 1881 Census rather than the actual type. Is there a way to list these so as to correct each one?

Yes, use Tools > Work with Data > Generic Source Types...
Select 1881 Census entry and click Where Used... to list all 5000+.
Double-click on each Record in turn to open its Property Box and edit its Generic Type field.

Would it make any difference to the records if I kept a generic type as 1881 census? The Lost Cousin's author asks us to add our ancestors who were on the 1881 Census to his site and that could be a helpful way of finding those ancestors? :?: :?:

Possibly, but there are plenty of other ways of finding Individuals with a Census in 1881.
Also, Lost Cousin's accepts details from the E & W Census in 1841 and 1911.

Yes I realise that, Mike, but would it hurt the record system in FH if there was an 1881 Census as a generic type?
