Icon Size & Backups
Hi
I really like Family Historian 7 and I'm gradually getting to grips with it. I have Family Historian 7 on two laptops on one the icons to the program are larger on the other they are miniscule. Could someone please advise how I make the tiny icons larger please my old eyes are nearly crossed trying to make them out. As you can deduce I am not a computer expert. Thank you.

Re: Icon Size & Backups
Douglas, can you give us a few more clues.
Are the Diagrams and Icons on the two PC somehow copied from one PC to the other and so use the same Icons?
OR
Have you created them completely independently on each PC with different Diagrams and Icons?
In the Diagram > Options > Boxes tab, Edit Features dialogue, does the Icon selection have a Size option?
If so then try 100dpi which should make them larger.
Alternatively, if use << Select you may find a larger version of the same Icon.
BTW: Why have you mentioned Backups in your Subject line?

Re: Icon Size & Backups
Douglas, are you talking about the icons within the program? Or icons within diagrams, as Mike is assuming?

Ah! If you mean the program main toolbar icons then try Tools > Preferences > Display and set Toolbar Size: Big.

Re: Icon Size & Backups
Hi
Thanks for your responses. I downloaded the Family Historian 7 to each laptop at the same time, one laptop is new and has a much greater resolution than the other if that makes any difference. The new laptop is the one with the miniscule icons. I refer to the magnifying glass icon on each person as an example and all the other such icons within the program. The older laptop also running Family Historian 7 has what I would call normal size icons. It is an older PC and the resolution is much less. Considering the program was downloaded to each PC at the same time I'm bewildered why they don't look exactly the same.
Referring to the Backup in the title can I also ask. When I finish filling in some personal details and go to finish I click 'save' and under the backup options I choose to backup the entire project each time. Is that the best option to ensure that if anything goes wrong I can retrieve a complete copy. I also transfer a backup copy to an external hard disk just in case. As my program starts to fill up with people and ancestors I would hate to lose anything. I appreciate your help.

Re: Icon Size & Backups
I've moved this to the FH General Usage forum as it is nothing to do with Importing and Exporting.
Yes, it is the higher resolution that makes all the difference.
So use Tools > Preferences > Display and set Toolbar Size: Big and that should help.
Yes, using the Backup option is important but it is even more important to save a copy on an external device, because if your main hard drive or PC fails, then having both your FH database and the Backup on the same device is useless.
With two PC as you have, some users synchronise them together via a cloud store such as OneDrive or Google Drive.
Then you automatically have three copies: one on each PC and one in the cloud.
Those Backups only backup your project data and NOT any customisations you make to the program in such as Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Plugins, Facts Sets, etc. You may not have many of those yet but they will grow.
The 'Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings' plugin from the Plugin Store is a way to preserve those customisations.

Re: Icon Size & Backups
The setting Tools > Preferences > Display > Toolbar Size will help with the icons in the toolbars, but won't help with the icons like the small magnifying glass on the focus window.
Another thing you might try is to go into Windows settings and increase the scaling from 100% to some larger number. Some programs do not handle this not being set at 100% very well, but you can try and see if that helps. My wife's laptop resolution is very high so she sets this at 125% which makes things easier for her to see.
