Hi all
a relative newby here with problems adding flags in diagrams. When I enter births and marriages in ancestral sources it appears the flags are added automatically. When I input census entries I cannot get the flags to appear on diagrams.
I tried adding in ancestral sources through tools and flag assignment. And also the boxes in the diagram options. If I look at the individual properties it shows a flag is assigned to the individual. But this is not showing on the diagram.
Any ideas please.

Re: How to add flags and icons
Welcome to the FHUG.
It is a common misconception with newcomers, but you are confusing Record Flags with Diagram Icons.
Record Flags are one of the Box Conditions that can add Icons to a Diagram Box.
They can also be used to add other features to Diagram Boxes such as colour or shape or shadow.
The reason that the Record Flags added by AS are appearing as Diagram Icons is that you added the Box Conditions a long time ago and forgot. See the FHUG Knowledge Base advice for Using Icons that explains how to set the Box Conditions.
Some users have dispensed with Record Flags and use the existence of a Fact with a Citation as the Box Condition.
That technique is explored in the advice above.

Thanks for that.I have worked throught the "Using icons "section and set the box conditions including an icon for the condition.(For example the 1911 census).
As you say the birth and marriage conditions were already set.
Unfortunately I still cannot get the icon to show on the diagram when I enter 1911 census information into ancestral sources. Any birth or marriage adds the icon to the diagram.

Re: How to add flags and icons
It is important that the Boxes Condition for Record Flag exactly matches the Record Flag added to the Individual by AS.
In AS use Tools > Flag Assignment... and check the Flag Name column.
In FH use Edit > Record Flags... and check the Flag names.
In FH in a Diagram on the Options > Boxes tab ensure the same Flag: names are used and have an Icon assigned.
When selecting an Icon the Category: Number Labels offer a neat set for 41, 51, 61, 71, 81, 91, 01, 11, etc.
Make sure that the Diagram you are testing has an Individual with a matching Record Flag.
If you still cannot resolve the problem then please attach some screenshots of the three dialogues listed above.
See Forum Usage Tips under Attachments and Taking Screenshots.
It is that slightly involved process that leads some to use Boxes Condition Expressions.
The Expressions test for the existence of the Fact Citation directly rather than test a Flag that indirectly signals that the Fact Citation exists.
