Display All Source References?

Post by BEJ » 15 Nov 2021 14:19

How can I view all of the bibliographic information for each (all) source?

I wish to see the Footnote, Short Footnote, and Bibliography entries such as those shown in the optional side panel of the Citation Window (see screenshot), plus the Short Title and Long Title.

I found the View -> Citations to Source query, but it only displays Footnote Text and it is not editable as a custom querry.

Please clarify where/how the view needs to be displayed and what you mean by (all) sources.
Do you literally mean all source records, or all source citations for a particular fact, or what?

For all citations for a particular fact, click in turn on each Citation listed in the Sources For yellow pane.

I am hoping to be able to see the information for every source record, displayed not by fact (found that) but rather by source.
  • What are the Footnote, Short Footnote, and Bibliography entries for source x, source y, source z, etc.?
  • What are the Title and Short Title for source x, source y, source z, etc.?
I'd like to see all of the above in a single display; it could be a query result, report, or record window. If possible, selecting a single or multiple sources would be ideal but a single list of all would be OK too. I just want the information to be in a format that I can select and copy it for pasting outside of fh7.

I think you misunderstand how Templated Source records operate.
The Title, Footnote, Short Footnote & Bibliography are governed by the Source Template format templates.
They involve data such as the Name of the person or the Date of the fact or even Citation-specific fields that only have a value when viewed in the context of a Fact/Record Citation linked to the Source record.
Those data have no values when the Source record is viewed in isolation.

For example, the same Source record may be cited by different facts belonging to different people and each instance could have a different Title, Footnote, Short Footnote & Bibliography after substituting the data values into the format templates.

So the only possibility I can think of is via a plugin that finds all the Source Citations and applies the Source Templates to each and every instance, but I'm not 100% certain that will be feasible.

OK. The values go with the citation, not the source. It was a long-shot, but thought I'd see if there was a way to get the results I wanted. Thanks. The answer helps me decide how I will construct my custom source templates going forward.
