How to delet no spouse tab

Post by jsphillips » 26 Aug 2021 12:57

I have a very large file and found 2 parents of an existing entry
I clicked on child and up arrowed and entered the father I had found.. no problem
Then I went to add her mother ie fathers spouse and it said that a tab with no spouse had entered ?
Confused would not let me delete this tab so :-
I went into child again and this time entered on a new tab her mother....brilliant worked everything ok but oh dear the no spouse tab has not gone all I want to do is to delete this tab
The correct number of records for project is ok everything is OK just need this no spouse tab removed without deleting the daughter (cild) which was there OK before entering parnets.
I checked all the records and no record with name "no spouse" is the ?
Help please
I have looked at previous other posts re this it did not help there is no duplication I can see

It would help us if you told us what people are mentioned on each tab, i.e. Spouses and Children.

However, I suspect that if you select that <no spouse> tab then only the Child (daughter) is listed.
i.e. It is a Family record with no parents/spouses just a Child. There is no record called <no spouse>. It is just a tab name.

So open the All tab, where there will be more than one Spouse family listed.
Select the Spouse family on the left that says <no husband> or <no wife> on the right.
Press the DELete key on your keyboard and OK the warning message 'The selected field will be deleted.'

Sorry to confuse let me start at beginning :-
I had a person let say Julia in my records c born 1550 (obviously with a married partner)
I then found her mother and father.
I went into Individual records window and selected Julia double clicked her record to bring her record and her spouses record. Selected her record and used the blue arrow and then selected the blank record for father and entered new data
This created the entry but brought up the spouse unknown tab.
So i entered on new tab the mothers name but this made it worse.
Normally i add children from the parents tab.
I have never tried to add parents from the childrens' records.
I have now deleted the mother and father to go back to start.
This time I went into the focus window and added from there successfully no problem...all ok
Is this the only way via this route to add parents to children or perhaps adding two reords father and mother and then linking them separately to child ?
Thanking you

If you want to use the Property Box, then you can use the blue up arrow to add one parent.
That will open the new parent Property Box with a <no spouse> tab and the Child(ren) below.
On the <no spouse> tab use the Add Spouse/Partner link to add the other parent.

If you add the other parent on another Spouse tab, then you are starting a different parent tree, which would be correct for adoptive or foster parents, but not for adding a spouse to the first parent.
