DNA Query Report

Post by Johnr65 » 14 Aug 2021 08:13

I have a fact set called DNA and in there I put the amount of DNA shared. Is it possible or is there a Query that will show all these DNA matches if I ask for it?

Presumably, your DNA Fact Set has a DNA Fact Type defined, so it is just like any other custom fact.
Therefore, the usual Fact Query methods will list them all. See All Facts Filter by Label.

Can the fact DNA report be amended to show the people in alphabetical order?

I guess you are talking about the Fact Query Result Set?
I guess you want to sort into surname order similar to the Records Window Individuals tab?
It would be helpful if your question was more explicit so we don't have to guess.
See the FHUG Knowledge Base An Overview of Queries under Sorting a Fact Query on Owner Surname where it explains how to achieve that.

Jane published a model for adding DNA matches. Using the attribute Gedmatch. (not to be confused with the Gedmatch website)
Her associated query lists the names of one's matches in a sortable column. Unfortunately people often identify their DNA identity with nicknames, or a forename followed by a surname, so the result is not perfect. Though it is perfectly workable and I have used it since she first designed it. Thank you Jane.

I keep 4 different trees for my ancestral families and have now listed 55 matches on one of them. So people using a single unified Project could end up with a massive list of names. I dont attempt to list all my matches. Only those of interest or who confirm a suspected relationship.

fh7 has enhanced DNA recording but most of it seems to relate to diagrams and I do not understand the Help articles.
It would be nice if someone on this forum who is using fh for DNA matches could go through what they do.

Where can I find Jane's list of Gedmatch by query?

See FHUG Knowledge Base Recording DNA Matches and at the bottom under Useful External Links follow the link to Jane's web page where there are downloads for the DNA Fact Set and Gedmatch Query.
