FH7 men-only tree

Hi,
slightly odd request...I'm doing a blog post about serving relatives in WWI. As there's a few I'd like to include a snapshot of the family tree for the men I'm talking about - just the men, about 3 generations. Er, how do I produce a tree diagram with just men in it, please?
Many thanks,

Does the Shared Y Chromosome (under DNA diagrams) show the right people? I'm assuming you only have a single family to deal with.
If it does, you may want to remove the icons: Right click in the Diagram, select Diagram Options > Boxes and edit the first two conditions to remove the Featured icon. Don't forget to save it as a custom diagram type.
If you need to include men who weren't blood relatives (e.g. adopted or stepsons), this approach won't work without some manual changes to the diagram.
Another approach would be to use a query to mark and select all females in an All Relatives chart with the required number of generations, and then hide the selected boxes. Diagram >Selections and Marks > Set/Clear Marks using Query > Mark All diagram boxes (and check Select marked boxes). Run the query (which can be very simple) and then Diagram> Hide/Show Boxes > Hide Selected boxes.
The query should be an Individual query with 2 columns (Individual and Sex) and 1 row (Add if %INDI.SEX% matches Female). If you have any individuals whose sex is Unknown you'll need to decide whether to include or exclude them.

Ooh! That's all very interesting, thank you

. I hadn't gone anywhere near the DNA diagram. The top two expressions for the tree are
=DnaShareYChrom(%CUR_DGM_ROOT%,%INDI%)
=DnaBloodRelation(%CUR_DGM_ROOT%,%INDI%)
which is the featured icon bit, please?
With the second method I get "Invalid selection. You cannot hide the tree root"
This is a great way of learning more about tree-filtering, thank you

Select the top expression, and then in the pane below, select Icon and then hit Edit Features. Untick the Icon option and then select OK.
Repeat for the second expression.
For the second method, it sounds as if you've generated the tree using a female root? I suggest using her brother or father if there is no brother.
