If there is a birth date recorded but no death date FH calculates and displays the current age of the person. If there is a death date it displays the age at death ('aged' rather than 'age').

If you don't want the ages to be displayed in the Focus window, click the small 'Customize View' link at the top right and untick Ages, then click OK. (You can also get to this Preferences window using Tools>Preferences>Focus Window.)

BTW: The Customize View... link and Tools > Preferences > Focus Window govern the Ages option as Lorna says.
In that dialogue, click the Help button and under Ages there is an explanation that says:
Display age information in the Spouses & Children tab, and the Parents & Siblings tab. Each person's age at the time of their death, marriage or divorce is displayed, if this is applicable, and is known or can be calculated. Each person's age now is displayed if the person is or may be alive.
