Ancestors diagram with siblings

Post by GenealogyPrinters » 30 Jun 2021 07:33

Try as I might I cannot seem to create a diagram starting with the root person and show all their ancestors with their siblings on a diagram. I figure it's possible but I just cannot work out how to do it, any ideas please.

Thank you.

Ron,
Use an All Relatives diagram, with the Generations Down option set to 1.
You may need to tweak the diagram to hide descendents of siblings etc.

The solution suggested by Alyn is probably the best for FH V6.2 assuming you want siblings of every ancestor.

In FH v7.0 the Generations Down option has a further option of from root or each ancestor and that second option will just include siblings when Generations Down is 1.

If you only want siblings of the root, and not the ancestors, then use the Ancestror & Descendants diagram with Generations Down set to 1.

Thank you very much both. I used an old version of FTM to split out the people I wanted. What I did there was to create an hourglass tree for the root showing all siblings which you can do in that old program. I then exported those people out of the file, I then created an ancestor tree with all siblings for the partner of the root and exported those people. I then merged the 2 files which gave me all the people I wanted, the resulting file had 696 people.

When I use the option that Alyn suggested it appears to work but the resulting diagram has 795 people in it.

A bit confused now LOL

Ron.

Ron, in your FTM version, do the hourglass and ancestor trees include partners/spouses of all those siblings?
In FH, the Generations Down: 1 option includes all the siblings and their partners/spouses and may account for the 99 extra.

When you checked the Diagram > Diagram Statistics did it say Number of Boxes = 795 or Number of Individuals = 795, because the box count includes Proxy boxes which are not extra Individuals.
