I have not run the Narrative report by generations for some time. I believe something has changed
I want to have the narrative report over my 8 generations.ie from the oldest in list to the youngest
In other progs this produces from about 20 pages. From here this produces 181 pages. It seems to take each person one at a time working from the oldest to the youngest OK but then does this again from the 2nd oldest and lower generations till each person has a Narrative report by genearation of their own. All I want is 1 generation report for the total records please
Any Help thanks

Re: Narrative reports by descendants repeated
That is how FH Descendant reports have always worked.
Effectively, a separate report of all descendants is produced for each person you choose as the root.
So if you choose a great many people who are descendants of others, then there will be a great deal of repetition.
At most you should only choose the oldest person at the head of each ancestral branch.
But there will still be duplication for the common descendants unless you limit each report to a different number of Generations to avoid those duplicated common descendants.
Maybe it would be better to produce an Ancestors report with just you as the root person.

Thanks pity it does not produce just the one.
The only is to produce a GED and create a tree in FTM to do that
Anyway thanks for your help
Much appreciated

Hi. I am just being curious, as I do not fully understand what you are trying to do, and am keen to learn more about reporting. Are you trying to produce a report of all (and only) your direct ancestors listed from oldest to youngest? Rather like the current ancestors report which goes from youngest to oldest, but printed in reverse order? So the first section would have up to 64 people, then 32, then 16, and so on, with the last section being you? If so, I think that would be a lovely addition to the FH suite.

Yes, that is the general idea, but I cannot get my head around what the presentation might look like.
Ancestor reports have a single root person; 2nd Generation parents; 3rd Generation grandparents; 4th Generation great-grandparents; and so on where some generations may be only partially populated if your research is incomplete.
Descendant reports have a single root person; 2nd Generation children; 3rd Generation grandchildren; 4th Generation great-grandchildren; and so on where some generations may be incomplete.
What seems to be requested is a Descendants report with multiple root people, who could be different generations back from the Project File Root. So how should the Generations be numbered and organised? It sounds very complex.
Or is the request effectively for an inverted Ancestor report that ends with the root person; preceded by their 2nd Generation parents; then 3rd Generation grandparents; and so on with the report starting with the oldest direct line ancestors at the Nth Generation.

Re: Narrative reports by descendants repeated
Hi Mike. Yes I believe it is the last one, the inverted ancestors report. I use the current ancestors report but I do find it slightly odd to read about people in that order. It would be nice if someone could show us one from other applications. Regards Ian
