Is there a setting or hack or something to store the dimensions of the property box (and the citation box and goodness knows what else) so that if I've enlarged it to a ludicrous extent in one session, I can easily get back to my preferred size?
It's easy enough to alter the sizes, of course, but each time I end up in paralysis of analysis wondering what I'd decided the optimum was. And when I refer to the width, I'm not sure whether I mean the overall width of the property box with or without the source-pane.

On my large monitor, I have Firefox, FH and File explorer fitted nicely across the page. If I change width of any one of them, I can get back to original width, using other windows as a guide.
As for FH, I have focus window, property box and citation windows all set to same width and aligned vertically.
Obviously not quite what you want, but it does make it easier to get back to my normal preferred sizes and positions!

Large monitors?
Actually - in all seriousness - you have given me an idea. If I set the boxes up as I want them, put FH in one half of the screen (because that's the typical small configuration, when I have FH in one half and an image of the source on a web-site, etc, in the other half), screen shot that and then put the screen shot in the same Evernote Notebook where I keep all my other standard texts and prompts for FH (which someone's presumably going to tell me can now be in Autotext!), then an image of one possible configuration will be just a couple of clicks away...

Ah, but it is my 55” TV, so not an extra monitor and with Picture in Picture, I can watch tv at same time as working my PC - so it’s a win, win for me and the planet!

This may work
just use the Windows 10 Win+arrow key (Left or Right usually works) giving half a screen, then choose something else for the other half.
Also very useful if you have 2 or more monitors.
