Modifications to Property Box: Fact Tab

Post by DJY » 28 Mar 2021 02:05

I'm trying to customize the Property Box: Facts tab to be more like a table of columns. I found this excellent post that helped me figure out how to add places to the facts without them: Property Box Facts tab - a Place problem (14934)

There are a couple of more things I'd like to do:
  • Right justify the date column. I find it harder to process the date info when the right edge moves in and out with the length of the date.
  • Put the fact label and the place in different columns (again, this is visual alignment for readability)
  • Bold the fact label

Is any of that possible?

Sorry, none of that is currently possible. The Facts tab has virtually nothing that can be customized.
The only entity that is customizable is the Fact column in the way you have already discovered.

All I can suggest is a Query or a Plugin that produces a Result Set of columns closer to what you require.
A Plugin is better because it can automatically use the current Individual record.
It is also feasible with a little cunning to invoke a Query or Plugin with a keyboard shortcut.

Thanks, Mike. I was afraid of that. Still, at least it has all the critical info. The whole reason I'm leaving RM is that they removed their chronology view. (It amounts to not seeing the focus window and the property box: fact tab at the same time.)

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with this fact definition code? It outputs the place but it won't output the spouse's name in the fact table. The same thing happens with the burial tag, where I've set the template to "Burial {individual}: {_place}" and the individual name doesn't show up.

I'm also wondering how I can get these fact templates to appear for witnessed facts and timeline facts?

That is a 'known problem' and I reported it in August 2020 as follows:
Family Advanced Override Template Problems [#497713]
This relates to Tools > Fact Types for any Family event such as Engagement, Marriage, Divorce, etc.
In the Edit Definition the Advanced… button opens Override Templates for Facts tab & Records Window.
Most codes and contextual data references do not behave as might be expected for Family facts.

In the Facts tab, a suffix such as to John Smith or from Jane Doe is always added unconditionally.

For example, it seems impossible to display the fully adorned name of the spouse by using such as:
Marriage to {spouse/her/him} or Divorce from {%CUR_PRIN2.NAME[1]%}.

[Partly fixed in FH 7.0.0.6 as to John Smith is not unconditional and {%CUR_PRIN2.NAME[1]%} works.]
So in your Marriage example substitute {spouse/him/her} with {%CUR_PRIN2.NAME[1]%}

Similarly in the Burial case substitute {individual} with {%CUR_PRIN.NAME[1]%}

For Witness Facts instead of the Advanced... button use the Roles... button, choose the Role and then its Advanced... button.

I don't think there is any customization for Timeline Facts.

See Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates that has pointers to the above.

Does that mean I can't edit the sentence format for timeline facts, eg, "Birth of son Samuel DRAGE"?

Correct. You cannot customize the Facts tab listing for Timeline Facts.
