Swedish source template definitions
Anyone developing census source template for Swedish parish records?
Swedish clerical records predate civil records, can be incredibly detailed, and are mandatory references for genealogists. Swedish Lutheran Church records date back to medieval times and were conducted annually. All Swedes were required by law to be church members into the 1800s so these "census" records include pretty much all persons in a parish.
I'd love to take advantage of the source capability in FH7.

Re: Swedish source template definitions
BEj, are you talking about Source Template Definitions or Autotext for text from Source?
It sounds as if you might need both: Source Template definitions to record the information that identifies the source, and Autotext to capture all the detailed information within the source.
You should be able to create both yourself, with some help from us if necessary.

Re: Swedish source template definitions
Thanks for the reply. I’m assuming I need both definitions and auto text.
I’m thinking I might start by cloning an existing census definition, edit it and base any future Swedish definitions on that. I expect the definition won’t be very close to what I need, but the auto text might be.

That sounds like a reasonable way to go, but I suspect the Autotext will be further from what you need than you expect.

Re: Swedish source template definitions
I've been playing around a little with cloning and editing existing definitions and have two questions before proceeding.
1) I created a new template definition, then deleted it in the Source Template Definitions window where it no longer appears. However, when I Create Source from Template / Prepare Citation the deleted template is still an option there. How do I delete templates I no longer wish to use in the Create Source process?
2) I use Ancestral Sources Data Entry for census entries. How do I get my cloned census definition (or is this autotext??) to appear in the Census Type drop down in AS? Just want to be sure I can use what I might create with AS.

Re: Swedish source template definitions
1) Have you read Adding and Customising Source Templates in Version 7?
You may have deleted the Source Template Definition, but I suspect you'll find you haven't deleted the Source template within the project. Go to View > Other Record Lists > Source templates to check.
2) I don't use AS, but believe that you can make your custom Source Template for use in it -- see https://ancestral.fhug.org.uk/webhelp/h ... /hs250.htm.
Re autotext in AS, see https://ancestral.fhug.org.uk/webhelp/h ... /hs185.htm -- As uses it's own Autotext facility rather than use the FH autotext.

Re: Swedish source template definitions
Thanks. 1) Yes, read the help. 2) Read that many times too, but not clear if “ non-essential” templates can used. 3) That worked!
If I decide it is worth pursuing, I’ll post in the AS forum. Frankly FamilyHistorian is a bit overwhelming right now— i’m spending my time trying to figure out the software, rather than doing family history.
