Compare/Merge for Research Notes

Post by Beerbadger » 24 Mar 2021 18:32

During the course of exploring FH7, as a new user, I have ended up with two Projects one more complete than the other. However, I seem to have left behind several Research Notes in the incomplete one. There are only about 10 and they are all Shared Research Notes.
Is it possible to move them over ?
Do I need to do a Compare/Merge and Discard everthing other than the Research Notes that I want or is there a simpler way ? If not then I could just re-enter them , as there are only about 10.

If you use File > Merge/Compare File... then you will have an awful lot of discarding to do on each of the many record tabs.

What are those 10 Research Note records linked to and how are they linked?
Are they linked via the Notes tab of several Individual records?
Or are they linked using Rich Text Links in the Research Note records?

If the former, then use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File... and select those Indiviudal records.
Then exclude everything except Research Note records and Unconnected records.
Keep [[Private]] notes, do not Convert notes to plain text.
Exclude all Media Records and Source Records.

The resulting GEDCOM should Merge the Individual records with their Note links and the Research Notes.

If the latter, then select no Individual records and use the same settings as above.
Ignore the warnings when exporting the GEDCOM.

The resulting GEDCOM will easily Merge but all the Rich Text Links will be broken and need fixing manually.
