Copy/ Duplicate a Named List

Post by jimlad68 » 18 Mar 2021 13:13

I've started making more use of Named Lists but cannot find a way to copy a list with its contents and in particular its columns and .

I can run a query to list the contents, then add them to a new Named List, but that does not copy the Columns or settings.

It looks fairly easy to do by editing the Gedcom file but that is not ideal and slower than above.

Your query technique to copy the records from list to list is the only way I can think of but won't copy list Notes on the records.

To copy the column configuration use the Save to Query button in old list and Load from Query in new list.
They are at the bottom of the Configure Columns ... dialogue where the columns are defined.

The list properties such as Record Editing Enabled and Keep Current List Order cannot be copied.

I cannot even be done with a Plugin as there is no access to any of those items.

Mike, thanks for the confirmation, I had discovered the "copy and reload the column configuration" method, better than adding the columns 1 at a time.

I think my method will be to not delete any Named Lists but to rename and reuse them.
