I have Preferences set to "Copy Image Tag Values to the Media Record"

According to the help file, that should Merge any existing keywords with Auto-generated Keywords.


This does not appear to be working for me however, as all I'm seeing when the image is added as a source is the Auto-generated value.


Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Meant to add, this is a newly added Media record, ie the keywords existed in the image when the photo was added to FH

I'm still using FH6 but I have the same experience. Has this feature ever worked or am I misunderstanding it?

Sue, I don't think the Tools > Preferences > Media tab Copy Image Tag Values to the Media Record existed in FH V6 and if I'm correct the feature therefore does not apply and is new in FH V7.

Mike, I just checked -- the feature did exist FH6.

CP asked me to submit the image I was using where the tags did not get added, and I've now had the following response

On checking, this problem is still not working for me.

I'm using version 7.0.3, which is the latest available from the Download store. Are you by any chance running 7.0.4?

No ColinMc, I'm still on v6.2.7. However, I've discovered today that this seems only to work when NOT adding an image via AS. Adding media via drag & drop produces the desired result. I realised by chance after entering a baptism via AS & saw that the keywords didn't show (as we commented before). Using drag & drop to add to a source which I had created without AS resulted in all keywords coming across & also the Picture Note. This certainly wasn't happening last month so I've no idea what has changed.

The one thing that has not changed is FH V6.2.7!
What has changed is the Media images and therefore the internal data tags may be different.
So for these types of comparative experiments, it is important to add exactly the same image in different ways.
i.e. Add it using AS and then add it again just using FH.
Then if Keywords are added by one method and not the other you know for certain it is the process that is that cause.

Thanks for your input Mike. I've just tried this & as before, the image added directly into FH carries the keywords & picture note across, whereas the same image added via AS does not.

However, what I find puzzling is that over time I've added many images directly into FH & none of them show the keywords - only those added since 15th April. Prior to that date, the last image I added directly into FH was on 17th March - keywords were not imported for this or previous images.

Maybe it is worth posting that difference between AS and FH in the Ancestral Sources forum to see what Nick says.

What happens if you add those earlier images to FH again?
Perhaps they were created by a different process that did not include the internal tags that FH needs for Keywords.

Was the Tools > Preferences > Media tab, Copy Image Tag Values to the Media Record option ticked for those earlier images, because I think it is not ticked by default? So is it possible you only ticked it after reading this thread?

Adding earlier images to FH again, results in the keywords now appearing as for "new" images.

Anything is possible of course, & I first read this thread on 18th March. I do recall checking the Tools > Preferences > Media tab Copy Image Tag Values to the Media Record option at the time & I'm pretty certain it was already ticked but, given that Friday was the first time since then that I added any new image into FH directly, it's difficult to be certain.

Thanks for your help, one thing that seems certain is that images added via AS don't seem to pick-up the keywords.
