Hi All
In this months Who Do You Think You Are magazine, there is a review on FH7. In the Pros & Cons, (Pros) it mentions:

Web Clipper makes it possible to import facts from most websites

Can someone please expand on this Web Clipper function, I have never seen or heard of it.

No idea!
Sometimes reviews are written by people who don't really know what they are talking about.
They are up against a deadline, and word-limit , and their copy gets altered by the Editor.
They don't have time to properly understand the product they are reviewing and perhaps get confused or mix up functions from different products. Who knows?

I think it's probably the ability to cut and paste formatted text from a website.

The facts must be created in the usual ways.
Only Text from Source, or Notes, etc, can benefit from cut and paste of formatted text.

Thank you both. Strange indeed. There were other products in the review perhaps they inadvertently got confused with one of those others.
There is nothing to be found in FH help either.

I suspect they're using the word "facts" as in the usual meaning of "information" rather than the technical FH/GEDCOM term Fact as we might use it. i.e. you can import information from most websites using the method Helen suggested above.

Maybe, but where does the term 'Web Clipper' come from?

I'll report this to the magazine and ask for clarification as to the review and that particular feature mentioned.

Try Googling Web Clipper, it's a plugin for OneNote etc.

Excuse me for butting in, but "Web Clipping" comes from the FH website.

The Feature List has a section titled "Search the Internet and Store the Results with Easy Web Clipping", and it says "Search for your ancestors in websites across the Internet using Family Historian’s integrated Internet Search tool. The results can be displayed in the Web Search Window, or in an external web browser, if preferred. Extracting data (text and pictures) from websites – sometimes called ‘web clipping’ – is easy using a combination of tools and features."

@Woodg: Regarding migrating from Relatively Yours have you seen the FHUG Knowledge Base Importing to Family Historian that has a section dedicated to "Import from Personal Ancestral File (PAF) / Relatively Yours" because RY can export a PAF compatible GEDCOM.

Please start a new thread in the Importing and Exporting Forum to discuss those options further.
