Re: How to remove prepared citation
Why do you need to get rid of it?
Anyway, View > Special Records > Header Records. Go to the All tab and you can delete it there.

Thank you for your reply. I had tried that but it doesn't delete, have tried delete, right click delete --
It doesn't serve any purpose so far as I can see.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
click the 'Auto' toolbar button to show the Auto Source Citation Pane at the top, and then click the little 'x' button to the right of the named source.
Check the Knowledge Base article on sources an citations to understand what the prepared Citation is

Re: How to remove prepared citation
The last used prepared citation is stored persistently between sessions until overwritten by a new iteration. So even if you delete it, as soon as you create another it will be stored again. Why do you need to delete it?
Re: How to remove prepared citation
Ah! Thank you would never have thought of that.
I have had a quick look at that section of the Knowledge Base - I can see how that would help with complex sources.
At the moment I'm using the Website Templates source in Page URL bit in Citation-specific Details to store a link to the individual in the online tree.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
How do I remove 2 out 3 unwanted birth prepared citations? I have tryed the clear prepared citation but the reference to the 2 unwanted cites are not deleted.
One reason that I want to remove the 2 redundants cites is that all appear in my Reports End Notes BIBLIOGRAPHY and I want to tidy up for more professional look. Thank you
(Using latest FH V.7 update, using the 17 Essentials Templates & latest AS V.7 update)

Re: How to remove prepared citation
These won't be prepared citations -- there is only ever one of those, stored in the Header record as described above.
It sounds as if you are referring to unwanted Sources? In which case you can delete the in the Source Record List (having checked first using View Record Links that there aren't actually any wanted citations to them.)
If you want to delete a citation, but retain the source, follow each unwanted link from the View Record Links display and delete the offending citation in the Sources for box.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
I am having a similar problem. I am unable to remove (unlink) a source citation. The red cross at the bottom of the source pane is greyed out. All the buttons are greyed out except to add a further source.
I have been struggling with fh7 source citations since it was released and would like to revert to fh6
Has anyone figured out a way to use fh6 and fh7 on the same computer?

Re: How to remove prepared citation
Evelyn, can you post a screenshot please. The red X at the bottom of the 'Sources for' pane is normally only greyed out when there are no sources cited for the item selected in the Sources for dropdown at the top of that pane.
Running V6 and V7 in parallel on the same computer is possible but requires a technical mechanism (called a Virtual Machine) to make them each believe they are the only version installed. It's not very convenient to work that way regularly so I wouldn't recommend it.

I have just tryed your suggestion and it deleted 1 out the 2 unwanted sources so not quite sure why it has nor deleted the other unwanted source referenceColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021 08:36These won't be prepared citations -- there is only ever one of those, stored in the Header record as described above.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
If you're deleting records in the records window, you have to do them one at a time, or follow the advice here: Delete One or Many Records. Is that what went wrong?

Re: How to remove prepared citation
Thank you for that. I believe I could still revert to fh6. Using Mike Tate's plug in.
Ignore the data entered in the screen shot because I use DNA as a surname for a possible family member currently not linked to our tree. Here is the requested image with the delete cross greyed out. However it is greyed out only when one of the sources is selected. It looks to me as if instead of linking to a source for the person record, the pane is actually showing the source record itself and quite rightly preventing me from deleting it.
Source 460 in the shot was my general source (lumping) for a tree on ancestry, imported from TMG. When I could not remove that citation, I created a new one with a variant on the same wording. Many of my TMG sources were made using the Authored Book template in TMG. Source 465 was my attempt to replicate that.
I even thought of asking Jane to give me an hour of paid tuition. Because I am entirely fed up with fh7 sources. And you have wasted hours trying to help me.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
Evelyn, it looks as if you have now succeeded in adjusting the display in the 'Sources for' pane so that it shows a wide Source record column. However you have moved the column divider so far to the left that you can only see that one column. As you have correctly guessed, if you select an item in that column you are selecting the Source record itself and FH won't let you delete the whole record. You need to adjust the columns so that you can see both the citation (first column) and the Source record ID (second column). You can then select the citation in the first column and the red X will be enabled.

Re: How to remove prepared citation
Thank you Lorna. But the image shows I have no columns to reduce. Even when I enlarge that source pane.
I was about to revert to fh6 when I discovered that, moving the line did ungrey the buttons and I deleted one of the sources. I deleted the general source and instead used the newly created one which allows the citation (adding the authors name)
I am grateful for your help. I will give it another week and see how it goes before reverting to fh6.
