Hello,
Something seems to have gone wrong with my copy of Family Historian. (I have downloaded the latest update to version 7). Before, adding a source for something like a date of birth was quite simple. I would click on the date of birth field, select say the 1851 England & Wales census from my list of sources, and paste the citation to the entry in the 1851 census into the "Where Within" field and it would be added.
Now, however, when I do that I get a "prepared citation" and no matter what I try the prepared citation is not pasted and therefore the source is not added.
I have tried to add sources to other fields too but get the same problem. All that happens is I get a "prepared citation" which stays in limbo as there is no way of pasting it and hence no source gets added to any field.
I would be grateful for any suggestion as to how to fix this.
Regards,
Roy

There are two approcahes to this.
Either (1) Select your existing source and add the citation details, then click the Copy Citation button at the bottom of the Citation window. It can then be pasted into the Sources for pane of the Property box using the Paste button there.
Or( 2) In the Sources for pane click the Add Citaton button. You can then choose between Cite Existing Source, Add New Source from Template or Add New Generic Source. If you choose to Cite Existing Source it will immediately be linked, and the Citation Window will open for you to add the citation details.

Re: Cannot Past any Prepared Citations to any source
The problem I had seems to have something to do with running Family Historian on a Mac using Parallels so that I could run Windows 10 applications. For some reason the bottom of the source box with the "add citation" button and other controls was not displayed and despite my attempts to change the size of the source box the bottom part remained hidden.
However when I used the Parallels Desktop controls to enter "Coherence Mode" the problem disappeared and I could see all the source box including the controls underneath it. I am still not sure what caused the original problem but I suspect I inadvertently did something to Parallels that affected how Family Historian's panels were displayed on my Mac.
I just thought I had better mention this in case anyone else running Family Historian on a Mac using Parallels encounters a similar problem.

Thanks Lorna,
I discovered a solution and posted a comment just before I read your reply. In my case it seems that the problem was an inability to see the bottom part of the citation panel because of some issue with the emulation software, Parallels, I was using, but everything is working again now.

Roy

Re: Cannot Past any Prepared Citations to any source
I'm glad you solved it.
Actually I can't normally see the bottom of the Citation Window properly either, because I have customised the window to include the Note and Text from source on the main tab. This makes the window quite tall and the buttons at the bottom are not displayed properly unless it is also made quite wide. The problem has been reported to Calico Pie.
