My Media inserts (birth certificate) are showing alongside my individual photo in my focus window, see my attachment. How can i stop these showing? I only want photos in this window and not copied media. ?

When you save the media image you get the choice of where the image appears. I do not know if it is still the same in v.7 but if I remember it is on the right hand side of the panel below the image box.

Hello, welcome to FHUG.

As you have discovered, any images which are linked directly to an individual will be displayed in the focus window. The intention is that only photos of the individual are linked directly to them. Images of certificates would normally be linked to a Source record and/or to the fact they support. The source record can then be cited against several facts (for example a birth certificate can be cited as evidence for the parents' names, the father's occupation, the parents' residence, the mother's maiden name....).

If you are new to FH have a look at this section in the Knowledge Base, which introduces the concepts of 'lumping' or 'splitting' sources, and the differences between them. Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 The recommended practice when you have a certificate is to create one source per certificate ('splitter' approach.)

If you review the Family Historian Sample Project that should be available in the Project Window, you will see photos of people attached to their Media tabs. You will also find images of documents such as BMD Certificates and Census records, pictures of Places, etc. They are attached to other data items such as Source records and Facts.

Once you have investigated the options, we can answer any questions you may have.

If you use Ancestral Sources the image wont appear in the focus window

I have a cover all source eg. 1911 census, which I attach to the person but I attach the image to the person so I can see at a glance the image from the media box
I suppose I got into the habit at the very start as I found a very long list under the source off putting and have not changed.
Probably wrong but that is the beauty of FH you can do your own thing!

1. Preferences > Startup > Display the Records Window, instead of the Focus Window.
2. Number 1. option too drastic? Back to Preferences > Startup > Focus Window.
3. Pictures group has a choice any or all > Max. Pictures allowed/Parent Pictures/Child Pictures.
