Diagram > Preferred Facts
Hi All
Is there a way to have a Diagram show Vitals such as Birth based on Preferred Fact Flag rather than the first Birth in the List? I can't find any suitable options in the list of available Formats.
Please see attached screen shot, Ancestors
Thank You

Re: Diagram > Preferred Facts
Yes, the data reference format for a Fact with a flag uses the usual instance index but with the flag name:
e.g. 1st Bith = %INDI.BIRT[1]% whereas Preferred Bith = %INDI.BIRT[preferred]%
In a Text Scheme if you add Birth from Available Items the dialogue offers Instance: All, Preferred, First, Last
If you add a Used Item for just the Preferred Birth event then for most boxes no Birth will get displayed.
So in the next Used Item add the usual 1st Birth event but Edit it and tick Only output if previous item blank.

Thank you Mike. I'll try this out. I might need to come back if I can't figure it out.

Re: Diagram > Preferred Facts
Mike, I don't believe it is necessary to add that extra line. The Help file (which uses the example of an occupation fact) says "If a given person has no occupation which has the Preferred flag set, this will return the first one." So the first (or only) birth fact will be displayed if there is no birth with the preferred flag. I have tested and verified this.
There is a different expression for displaying only a preferred fact, which uses the [prefonly] index. That is the one which returns nothing if there is no fact of that type with the preferred flag.

Re: Diagram > Preferred Facts
OK, I stand corrected. There are several new features like that which take time to learn.
That same Help section on Preferred says nothing about Private, Tentative & Rejected fact flags.
The Data Reference Assistants offer all four fact flags as index options but not the PrefOnly variant.
Are there PrivOnly, TentOnly & RejOnly variants?
IMO there need to be some improvements to both the Help and the DRA in this regard.

Re: Diagram > Preferred Facts
In a custom Text Scheme add Birth from Available Items and Instance will have Preferred as an option, so choose that.
Move that new Birth item up to where the original Birth is and then delete X that original Birth item.
That should display the Birth event with the Preferred flag, but if none it will display the 1st Birth event.
