Citation specific fields in Bibliography

Post by BakerJL75 » 31 Jan 2021 21:00

I would like to construct a source definition for Facebook that has a bibliography definition something like:

{Author:Reverse}. Personal Page. Facebook. {URL} : {Post_date:YEAR}. {Title}.

where Author, URL, Date, and Title are all citation specific.

If anyone is wondering why I want to do this, pg. 816 of EE, 2nd edition, I believe shows this example:
Kukla, John. Personal page. Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/jonkukla/info : 2014. "About."

I do not want a source record for every single Facebook personal page in my database. I want one Facebook personal page source with many citations.

FH7 will not let me put citation specific fields in the bibliography. I have ran across this before and it irritates me to no end. Is there a way around this? It makes no difference if those fields are defined as text rather than names or dates.

I do realize Facebook pages are not good sources, but if that's all I have, then at least I know where I got it from when researching for a better record.
Thanks,
Jackie

Jackie - I'm slightly confused over what you want. Do you want just one source-record that covers all the personal Facebook pages that you have used as sources? Because if you do, then the Bibliography will just include one entry for Facebook. That's the way it's supposed to work - one Bibliography entry per source record.

What FH refers to as citation specific items, appear in the first and subsequent reference notes but never in the Bibliography, which uses stuff only from the Source-record. That's why "FH7 will not let me put citation specific fields in the bibliography".

If, on the other hand, you want a Bibliography where there are different entries for different Facebook pages, then you have to have a different source-record for each Facebook page.

Now, I'm probably not using v7 terminology correctly but this is more like me trying to understand the basic ideas of what you need to do.

Yes, the Bibliography is per Source record not Citation.
However, either of the Footnote templates can include Citation Specific meta-fields.

I would like one Bibliography for each person's profile, especially if there are multiple citations. I'd want their name for Author, the rest I could do without. It doesn't seem to be that a generic Facebook bibliography would be enough, although I guess it could be. For example at a minimum:

Doe, John. Personal Page. Facebook.
Doe, Mary. Personal Page. Facebook.
Smith, John. Personal Page Facebook.

I'd like to do this with letters as well. But it sounds like it's not doable, so I'll have to decide how I want to go.
Thanks,
Jackie

That is correct you can't get a Bibliography like that with Method 2 'lumped' Source Citations and Citation Specific meta-fields.
You will need Method 1 'splitter' Source Citations with a separate Source record for each Facebook entry or each letter.
