Boxes in text and dates on photos
Since I've had FH7 I seem to get boxes put around any text to do with bmds which I don't always want, is there a way to amend this?
Also when I add media, on FH6 the date box came up and I could enter the date or other text before accepting it in the program, FH7 doesn't give me that opportunity?

Too little detail John.
Where are boxes around text? ~ you know but we don't ~ so don't keep it a secret!
How do you add the media? ~ you know but we don't ~ so don't keep it a secret!

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
You always seem to want screenshots! In the 1st case, I can't find one at present.
In the 2nd regarding media; if I add a photo from my pc to the media part of FH7 it adds it without allowing me to add a description or date to the photo/media so that I have to edit it afterwards-this didn't occur in FH6?

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
John, in this case Mike did NOT ask for screenshots. He just asked for more information, which you have still not supplied.
WHERE are you seeing boxes round text? In diagrams? In reports? In the Facts tab? In Notes?
And which METHOD do you use to add Media? There are various ways of doing it. Tell us where you start from and which steps you use.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
John, I don't always want screenshots, although they do often quickly short-circuit to the solution.
However, to get your problem answered for free by volunteers, a bit more description would help.
Do you not agree that just saying "I seem to get boxes put around any text to do with bmds" is a bit vague?
What dialogues? Property Box, Reports, Diagrams? You know but I don't, so why keep it a secret?
In your new description for adding media, you have added words but still don't say 'how' you add media.
Media can be 'added' in many ways via many command dialogues. What are you doing?
Adding via the Media tab of a Property Box, using the Add menu options, right-click on Media tab of Records Window?
Are you copy & pasting, drag & dropping, or selecting via the file list?
Just give us some clues, please?
Thank you, Lorna, for reiterating the lack of information.

To me it's simple if I want to add a photo from my pc photo folder to a person on my tree, I focus on the person and click on the Media button in the middlebox-is that the records window, then press 'add media' and it gives 2 options and I go for the 1st one 'insert from file' which takes me to my pc and I can select the relevant photo/media. Then FH7 adds it to the person's media but doesn't give me a chance to enter text or date as it did on FH6, so I have to click on 'edit' and do it.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
Lorna, the boxes are black underlined in the sources as in bmd refs volume and the page number. Prior to FH7, FH6 didn't have boxes around them.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
Yes, you are correct John, FH V7 is different from FH V6 and needs that extra click to Edit the Date.
If it is a problem then report it to Calico Pie via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php but do provide the description you have given just now.
John, did you add the text via Ancestral Sources which now can use rich text tables in Source record Text From Source.
i.e. similar to tables in MS Word, like a mini-spreadsheet of rows and columns.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
.... or are you copying and pasting the BMD volume and page number from a website? If it is in tabular form on the website it will be retained in that form if you paste it into an Note field in V7, which supports Rich Text formats. If you just want plain text you need to use the option to Paste Unformatted Text.

Thank you Lorna, I use copy and paste for adding the source so in future I'll have to use Paste Unformatted Text.

Mike, I've sent a ticket to Calico pie regarding editing the media.
Yes I do use the rich text from AS7 when adding records.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
After copying the text, right-click with the mouse in the field where you want to paste it and you'll see a short menu of options, the last of which is Paste Unformatted Text.

Lorna, is there a way to make Paste Unformatted Text the default?

Only by reverting to FH V6.2
BTW: Your profile on the right still says you are using Family Historian: V6.2

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
I don't think so, no. But if you get into the habit of always pasting text using the mouse it's just a case of choosing the fourth option (Paste Unformatted Text) instead of the third option (Paste) so it doesn't take any longer.

Pity as I occasionally slip up and click the 1st alternative.

Re: Boxes in text and dates on photos
Took me some time to find that out. Just more inconsistencies when you are so used to the Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, now you have to remember that if it is fancy, use the bloomin' mouse! I am finding that there are so many things that we cannot do by keystrokes anymore - not good for RSI, and takes so much longer to do anything!
