I have just moved my project to v7.
On the facts tab of the father of a groom, there has appeared the witness icon next to the marriage of his son.
When this is clicked on, there is a list of all the correct witnesses (bridesmaids etc) but the link highlights the correct best man who is a totally different person (the grooms brother!). So there is a sentence on the fathers tab stating that he was best man at his sons wedding. I don't know how to remove this. The only way I can think of is to delete the source completely and re enter it using a template. Is there an alternative/better way?
Edit - I have just discovered that ALL of his brothers and sisters and his mother are quoted as witnesses even though they weren't originally added as such when I entered them in v6.2
Further edit - I think I may have had a "moment" with this. I may have misunderstood the icon!!!??? I am beginning to realise it may be simply stating that there exist witnesses to the event of the marriage and not necessarily that the person to whom the fact relates to was one of those witnesses themselves.

Re: Witness feature. Rogue attachment
Nothing has changed in FH V7 versus FH V6 as far as Fact Witnesses are concerned in the Facts tab.
It is slightly unfortunate that FH chose the term Fact Witnesses instead of Shared Fact that other products use.
Each shared Fact Witness has a defined Role that may be Best Man, Bridesmaid, Minister, or Witness, etc.
So when you double-click the Marriage event to list the Fact Witnesses their Role is listed alongside each one.
I suspect the father of the groom has the Role of Father?
You must have entered them all in FH V6 but simply have forgotten.
Maybe it was just an experiment that has been left behind by mistake?
It is amazing the things people are discovering, and assuming FH V7 did something all by itself

Re: Witness feature. Rogue attachment
Thanks Mike,
I only entered four individuals as witnesses to the marriage. ( The four who were actually present) . The grooms father wasn't present neither were his mother and some brothers and sisters all of whom have the marriage fact in their fact tab along with the witness icon.
At first glance, it looked to me that it was saying all those people were witnesses but it seems that it is merely attaching the marriage fact to all relatives of the groom and saying that there are recorded witnesses to the fact (i.e the four I entered)
When I double click on the fact anywhere, it brings up the correct four witnesses and their roles (I was confused because it defaults straightaway to the first person in the list with the sentence " he was best man at the marriage...." which was confusing as it looked as if it was saying, for example, on the father's fact tab that he was the best man.)
I can't remember if this was exactly the same in version 6 but it all seems ok in v7 when I have thought about it. As you say, I immediately blamed V7 for playing tricks!
Unrelated question - Does the introduction of templates in v7 not make Ancestral Sources redundant to a large extent as they seem to do similar jobs. I have never used AS and am wondering if it is now worth the effort of learning to use it or just to stick with FH itself.

Re: Witness feature. Rogue attachment
I have just realised what you are seeing.
Those Marriage facts have a grey bullet on the left (not blue or red) indicating it is a Timeline Fact.
They can be switched on and off using the Show Timeline Facts button near the righthand end of the toolbar below.
Its icon looks like a calendar with a green + sign.
So it is saying it is a Marriage of a close relative and governed by Tools > Preferences > General tab Timeline Facts... button and dialogue settings.
Wherever it appears that Marriage fact will have the Fact Witness blue icon on the right indicating there are Fact Witness Roles but not necessarily for the person you are viewing.
None of the above has changed in FH v7 compared to FH v6.2.
See FH V7 Source Citation Options (18742) for a discussion of your unrelated question.
