Template for Electoral Register UK
I realise everyone is probably still getting to grips with v7 but does anyone know if there is a template suitable for the above.
Writing my own is a bit beyond me time wise at the moment.

Do you ever use Ancestral Sources to enter data? Nick Walker has updated it to work with FH v7, and has extended the 'Census' type of entry to include Electoral Registers for the UK.

I never got round to using that. I had thought that v7 would make much of the AS stuff redundant with the template's feature but I fear not.
Maybe I should give it a try. The electoral register feature in AS seems exactly what I'm after.

Please don't be sorry that FH7 doesn't make my software redundant!

In order to appreciate the benefits of AS, it is necessary to understand the principles of FH.
AS is simply a more convenient way of achieving what you can achieve manually in FH.
You need to understand FH Source Citation structures to find what AS creates for you.

Does that mean you need to understand the way they are programmed (HTML I presume). Is it possible to achieve that by reading through the user help literature or does it need more in depth technical knowledge?

No, you don't need anything as technical as that (it certainly isn't HTML which is only used in websites).
You simply need to be familiar with the way FH adds Facts and Citations and Source records and links them together.
I'm just talking about the normal user interface tools, commands, and options ~ nothing deeply technical.
There are good examples in the Family Historian Sample Project and you can practice there with both FH and AS.
If you don't understand those principles, and just leap in and use AS, you may not appreciate some of the options that AS provides and you may not discover where AS has added details in FH.
For example, it took a while in the Witness Entries - More Detail? (17709) discussion for you to understand the Fact Witness and Source Citation features of FH. AS can use all those features when capturing Census and BMD source documents.

AS will create sources and citations and you don't necessarily have to really understand all that. Further down the line when users get theirs head around all that they can be pleasantly suprised to find out what AS has been doing for them!

I'm not sure I entirely agree, Nick.
If the user is not familiar with the FH features used by AS how can they choose the appropriate Tools > Options settings, Source Template options, Rich Text settings, Title Templates, and Associated Individual options, etc?
They could capture a lot of data only to discover it is not organised the way they would prefer and have to repeat it all.

Re: Template for Electoral Register UK
Yes but the alternative is they don't use AS and just enter the data without sources, etc. The default settings are not a bad starting point. I also assume they will work out what's happening with sources etc before too many entries have been made. If they're expected to fully understand first, they might never bother trying. But I don't totally disagree with you either, I just dont want people to be put off by feeling they have to understand everything first.

Thanks for the replies.
I think the best way forward is for me to give it a try in the sample project and see how it goes.
