Hints

Post by Mike Davies » 19 Jan 2021 14:30

Hi all I've been making use of hints from FMP posted on FH for some time now. I don't use My Heritage as I only subscribe to FMP and Ancestry. I have disabled the hints for MH.
Is there any way of stopping Hints that have been either accepted or rejected from re-appearing in the focus window?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

If you have the Internet > Internet Data Matches > FindMyPast > Settings... set to Enable and Default (new) then once you have Accepted or Rejected a Hint via the FMP window then it should not reappear.

You dabbled with that setting in Hints (17168).

Do you run FH on one PC or on two PC?

Thanks for your reply Mike. I have my Internet Matches set as you have outlined

and have had these settings since my last query about this but I still get the hints reappearing even after dealing with them several times. This has been happening ever since hints started appearing.
I run FH on a laptop and desktop synchronised via Dropbox though since having a new laptop I mainly work on that. I was hoping that having upgraded to V7 that the problem would go away but that is not the case.
Any further ideas?
Thanks Mike D

Checkout the advice in FHUG Knowledge Base for Internet Data Matches.

How new is your new laptop?
Have you ever synchronised your User Credentials or exchanged settings using the Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin?
See the User Credentials section in the above KB advice.

Also, Refresh Automatic Internet Matching as mentioned in the Introduction section.

In the Internet Data Matches dialogue in your screenshot, click Help and follow the Manually Refreshing Hints advice.

Hello Mike.
My laptop is a year old
Having never synchronised my User Credentials I've now done this but was surprised to find that I had to export from both computers and that the second export over-rid the first export in the public folder, is this right?
Before changing to V7 I used the Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin, however the backup took seconds and did not download the few customizations that I'd made to the property box so I don't think it worked for me. However I downloaded the relevant tabs an all the information was still there so no problems.
I've followed your advice on Manually Refreshing Hints
So far things seem to be working hints wise i.e. dealing with hints on one computer removes the new hint from the other. It remains to be seen if they return at a later date.
Once again many thanks for all your help and patience
Mike D

There are a few misconceptions in what you say.

I have to admit a typo has crept into the KB User Credentials advice. It should say Export from one PC and Import into the other PC

The Backup & Restore FH Settings plugin does not perform magic.
If you used the Backup option, then all it does is create a backup just in case the master settings get corrupted.
To reinstate settings from the backup you must use the Restore option.

But in this instance that would not be wise as the settings have been updated by FH V7 and the backup was for FH V6.
So you need to run the plugin again once you have reviewed all your settings to create a backup for FH V7.
We need to return to this topic later to ensure your two PC have the same custom settings.

Regarding, Property Box custom tabs, that is a recurring theme, as users are not consulting the FH Help page.
See Help > Family Historian Help > Notes on Upgrading to Version 7 where it gives Important Notes on Restoring Property BoxCustomizations.
