Book Image ~ Where linked?

Post by peterbel » 17 Jan 2021 20:26

I have been playing around generating a Book and found an image of a Marriage Certificate appears to one of the individuals in the Descendants by Generation Narrative section, which I don't want. I first thought it was because it was in the Media collection for them but it isn't, it is where it should be a Source in their Family.
Any suggestions on how I can remove/replace it please?

You need to perform a little software forensic diagnosis to determine where that media is used.

If you can easily identify the Media image then in the Records Window open the Media tab and select that record.
Then run the Where Used Record Links plugin that should identify exactly everywhere it is used.
OR
In the Media Window, double-click the Media image and open the Links tab.
That lists everywhere it is used, but you may have to expand and dig down to find exactly where.
OR
Use the Publish > Narrative Reports command to produce a standalone report for the same Starting Person...

In the Report > Options > Pictures tab set Root/Relative Max Pics to 0 and click Apply.
If the image vanishes then it is on the Media tab of the person described on the left.

If not, then repeat for Spouse(s) Max Pics set to 0 and click Apply.
If the image vanishes then it is on the Media tab of a spouse of the person described on the left.

If not, then the image must be attached to a Fact or a Place.
So under 'Other' Picture Types untick Facts (Events/Attributes) and click Apply.
If the image vanished then it is linked to a Fact of the person described on the left.
On their Facts tab ensure the Show Media dialogue has both Include Source & Citation Media unticked.
Then look for a Fact with the Media icon in the More column.

If that is not the case then it must be linked to a Place record.

Thanks Mike.
The Where Used Record Links plugin shows that the Certificate is linked to both the Individuals and the Family, i.e. 3 links.

How should I proceed from here, unlink the media from the two individuals?

It is NOT actually linked directly to any Individual or Family records.
If it were then the Data Ref Where Used would be INDI.OBJE or FAM.OBJE with the records listed to the left.

It is linked to the Media tab (SOUR.OBJE) of two different Source records with Rec Id [175] and [197].
You have cut off the part of the Result Set that lists those two Source records on the left.
So those Media images will only appear in the Sources section towards the end of the Report.
Is it correct that it is linked to those two Source records?
Usually, a Marriage Certificate would only be linked to one Marriage Source record.

The other case is where the Media image is linked directly to a MARRiage event in Family record Id [37].
The actual Marriage event is listed to the right, but you have cut that off too!
So this is the only one that will appear in the body of the Report and can be hidden in the Report by changing the Pictures tab settings if you wish, or it can be permanently removed from the Marriage event as explained below.

To remove that link, double-click the FAM.MARR.OBJE cell in the Result Set of the plugin.
That will open a Facts tab with the Marriage event highlighted.
In the More column on the right, there will be an image icon confirming the Media is linked there.
Click the Show Media button with the same icon in the toolbar below to open the Media for Fact dialogue.
Select the image and click the Unlink/Delete... button and choose Unlink Only.

Thanks again Mike. Yes I just snipped the Data Ref Where Used part to anonymise it.
I think it has could have come about as I originally had Marriage Certificates as Individual Media links and then learnt they should be Family linked. I will explore a little more using your explanations.

As I just said, a Marriage Certificate should NOT be directly linked to Individual or Family records.
They should be linked to one Source record and that have Citations from the Marriage event, father's Occupation attributes, Residence facts, and Witnesses, etc.

Understood, Media (Marriage Certificate) linked to a Source with its Citations linked to the Family. Apologises if my terminology is not correct and for being economical with my replies.
