Does anyone know what 7.0.1.3 fixes?

Didn't know there was one. Interesting that FH7 doesn't indicate that updates are available, mine says 7.0.1 is the latest version. Perhaps CP are still doing what they did with the first update, just emailing those that raised tickets.

No, all new users (and anybody else who checks their original download link) are getting the latest version, but they don’t want to create a poor impression with existing users by issuing frequent new versions. Begs the question of what is required to trigger an update notice in the program. A major fix, such as PDF output, perhaps...

And I'm still at 7.0.0, which the program tells me is the most recent version. Interesting. Not that I'm too concerned, I just find it curious.

Installing v7.0.1.3 did not require a reboot, so that's an improvement, I suppose.

Same here, but I think that was fixed in v7.012

I have just installed FH v7.0.1.3 and it invoked an unannounced PC Restart which could have destroyed work in progress!

Has anyone reported this problem to CP?

I had that restart problem when installing v7.0.1.1 and v7.0.1.2, but not when installing v1.0.1.3

And I've never had it for any of the patch releases. (Although having read of people who did, I was careful not to be running anything else when I did the update).

I had it for 7.0.0.1, but not for .02 or .03, which both installed without requiring a reboot.

Same here. Reboot was needed for 7.0.1.1 but not for 7.0.1.2 or 7.0.1.3

It seems to be a random mixed bag, so I have reported it to CP suggesting there should be a warning to users about the possibility of a Restart.

I had this issue when installing v1011 and reported it back to CP

Agree that software that spontaneously updates itself during use should never reboot without warning, but we have initiated these in-version upgrades ourselves. Initiating an upgrade while you have open user files is not good practice for any software.

Yes, we understand all that Mark, but it is equally not good practice to invoke an unannounced Restart.
These days, even Windows give users good warning.
There are probably other scenarios where an unannounced PC Restart would be unwelcome.
Not all users are aware of such repercussions, especially as FH installations have never invoked a Restart before.

Has anyone else found the FH7 installers seem to sit doing nothing for a minute or so before and after the green progress bar starts and completes? I ran the 7.0.1.3 installer with Task Manager open. It started with a message to the effect that it was creating folders, but sat at around 1.6% CPU and no disk activity for about a minute before the green progress bar appeared and the main program was installed. When the progress bar had almost completed, it sat at low CPU and no disk activity for about the same time again, stating that it was installing additional components, before suddenly completing.

Similar behaviour with 7.0.1.1, except that after sitting apparently idle after the progress bar had completed, it suddenly rebooted the PC with no warning.

Yes, my v7.0.1.3 install was similar to that, except it Restarted at the end, but I was not checking Task Manager.

Indeed - that's why I warned folks not to reinstall with files open, rather than just complaining about FH rebooting unexpectedly...

Same for me. It was quite disconcerting, but I managed to halt it and save my work.

I asked Ros at CP for a list of fixed issues for each release so far. You can find these here:

Hi All

7.0.2 is now available at the store.

Release notes are here: http://www.family-historian.co.uk/v7-updates.

I have three fixes :D

It's worth noting that the minor version upgrade from 7.0.1.x to 7.0.2 does NOT migrate all your settings seamlessly. It blew away my customised Individual Summary and Family Group Sheet Reports that I has spent some time getting just as I wanted them.

Fortunately I've been bitten this way before, so took a snapshot of my configuration prior to installing the new version. It took just a few seconds to copy the files back into the relevant ProgramData folder, but it's annoying that it is necessary.

Mark, why not save them as Custom Report Types which is advisable for any customised standard Diagrams or Reports?
I have never understood why standard Queries cannot be customised and yet standard Diagrams and Reports can!

Indeed, I could do that, but it seems an extra step when I run the same report configuration every time. I agree that it is an odd inconsistency, with FH allowing users to set up a very convenient local default, but then not saving it. I'll just have to get into the discipline of saving a new custom version whenever I tweak the format.
