Military history fact set - FH7

I have done a lot of family history, but I am a newbie to Family Historian, starting with v7. Having imported my data and added more, I now need to add what I would class a military history fact (medal award). Unfortunately, none of the fact sets in FH7 seem right for this and the
Military History fact set says it is only suitable for FH versions 4, 5, and 6. Is this actually true, or am I missing something?

It should work with fh7. We haven't had time to update the versions for the downloads yet.

Are you are aware of the built-in
Extended Set which has Military ID and Military Service attribute facts?
I realise they don't help much for Military Medals but though it worth mentioning.
See
How to Access the Extended Set of Fact Types.

I have just been looking at the Military fact set when I stumbled on this thread and have another to add to the list and posisbly a second
The first is Army Lists
These include where a section of the army was based and can often be useful in tracking down where someone is missing in a census year.
I was thinking of a attribute rather than event so that the unit could be included in the value field and the sentence something like "Joe bloggs was serving in the "value" in "place" in "year" the year coming from the list date
Similarly the possible other would be "death in service"
Again an attribute might be better so as to get access to the serving force
sentence something like "xxx died on active service on xxx at xxx whilst serving with the yyyy"

John, be careful not to mix up Source Documents with Fact Types.
(For example, we don't create Fact Types for GRO Birth Index, Birth Certificate, etc, but just use the Birth event.)
There are plenty of existing custom Attributes in the FHUG KB Military Fact Set for various Military Service details.
IMO Death in service would be recorded in a standard Death event where the Cause could say "on active service whilst serving with the yyyy". It is critical to use the Death event, as just like the Birth event, it is fundamental to other features.
If you don't like using Cause for those details they will fit into Place, Address, or Notes, perhaps as a labelled Note which can be incorporated into the Sentence Template using the =GetLabelledText(...) function as explained in the FHUG Knowledge Base
Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates > Custom Fact Fields.

I am curious why a fact from v6 might not work in fh7?
I have quite a jumble of militry facts but have been using Unit and Service number indiscriminately in the two versions fh 6 and now in fh7.
I am trying to identify all men in a Royal Artillery Brigade on the census of 1911 and find their service papers. (Named List with a column to show Census entry) And my method of work has been to plough on regardless.

Evelyn, as Helen said earlier, all Fact Sets are compatible with both FH V6 and V7.
It is simply that the Downloads in the FHUG KB have not yet been updated to say they are FH V7 compatible.
There is a LOT to update there and only a few people doing it, so more volunteers would be welcome.

Thanks for the comments and I certainly would not mix the two - been doing this for too long
I take your point about the death event and it makes logical sense - really need to get my head back into FH mode instead of TMG
I was going by the list of events and attributes in the version that I have which must have been an early version as it does not include some of those in the set now
If I download the new version will it affect anything that I might have used in the current version or will it just pick up the new one - It is not clear from what have seen in the help
As I already have the set it will download I believe as Military2 -
How can I get the facts alreeady used to the new set?
How can I get rid of the old set without losing data
Or am I missing the obvious
Regards
John

Don't confuse Fact Sets and Fact Type definitions with Facts in your data.
You could delete all your custom Fact Sets and none of the Facts in your Project data would be significantly affected.
That concept is very similar to the TMG Master Tag Type List definitions (I think).
Their sentences in Narrative reports would be different because no Sentence Template would be defined.
Their sort order might be affected because no Normal Time Frame would be defined.
Otherwise, you would not notice much difference.
The Military2 Fact Set eclipses every Fact Type defined in the Military Fact Set.
You can confirm that in Tools > Fact Types... by setting the top left Fact Set filter to Military.
Nothing is listed until you tick Show Hidden on the right which confirms they are all <eclipsed>.
So you can safely use Fact Sets... select Military and Delete leaving just Military2, unless you have further customised any Military Fact Type definitions, in which case you must replicate that customisation in Military2 for the same Fact Types.

Is this something I could do? I dont mean full time but an hour or two instead of Twitter?
