Hi I have read the postings on media but they do not quite answer my problem ?
I had an added linked photo of Mr "A" in my file. The photo was poor so I decided to edit it. This edited the photo but some how it still retained the jpg of the poor original. So decided to remove the photo completely and verified that it no longer appeared in the All media file. I then took the new photo and added and linked it. It now says photo already exists with that name of Mr A and that the new photo is now Mr A (1) ...Mr A (1) appears but no record anywhere of Mr A.
Tried this 3 times and now photo appears as Mr A (3) and no trace of the deleted A, A(1),A2 etc ??
So it appears the edit does not work and the delete does not work as far as prog says although there is no trace of former. I do not want to alter the name of the jpg as it is Mr A's real name.

It sounds like you keep deleting the Media Record inside the FH GEDCOM but are NOT deleting the JPG File in the Media subfolder of the Project.

Run the plugin Check for Unlinked Media and I suspect it will list all your copies of Mr A.jpg that are no longer linked to your Project Media Records, and which can therefore be deleted.

You may have to rename the remaining Mr A (3).jpg and adjust the Media Record File Link.
Alternatively, delete the Media Record again, run the Plugin again and delete the JPG File.
Then add the Media item again from scratch.

How are you performing the photo edit? That seems to be crux of your problem.

All the images are held on my Win 10 computer in a special folder Pictures folder "genealogical images".
When creating a photo for FH I add inc link from this folder. I went into the folder in Win10 and photoshopped the original picture therein assuming that would automatically overwrite the FH media file as it was linked.
Because that did not work I deleted from FH the poor image from the media file. The I added again from Win 10 the photoshopped new image.
I have done as requested but as other unlinked files I cannot seem to delete from the plug just the 2 files therein
I tried photoshopping the jpg media file image in the All media file but that did not work

If I understand correctly, when you Add Media to FH you choose NOT to copy your Media Files into the Project's Media subfolder but keep them in the external ...\Pictures\genealogical images\ folder.

So in the FH Media Record the File Link will be something like C:\Users\...\Pictures\genealogical images\Mr A.jpg instead of just Media\Mr A.jpg
Is that correct?

If so, that explains why the plugin Check for Unlinked Media won't find any unlinked files as it only looks in the Media folder.

If my assumptions above are correct, then if you photoshop ...\Pictures\genealogical images\Mr A.jpg AND save it back with the SAME file name, thus overwriting the original Mr A.jpg, then the photoshopped version will appear in FH but it may a refresh of the thumbnails.

Can you explain what you mean by the "All media file"?
You cannot edit any media files from within FH.

I wonder if you need a short revision tutorial on how FH Media Records and Media Files interoperate?
