New year resolution - 'to learn all about new integrated word processing facilities on new version 7'
1st Task - How to use Improved Report Window Integrated Word Processor
How can I change and re write my own word processing text in the new improved report window? At the moment it is difficult to read with the default settings and very repetitive. I would like to start to learn how achieve a higher quality simpler less repetitive text which is more my own narrative but still include the relative key BDM dates only once for each individual and not keep repeating them making it difficult to read.
Happy ,healthy and enjoyable FH 7 new year

I think you are talking about
Publish > Narrative Reports which is
not new in FH V7 and has not changed much since FH V6.
The new
Integrated Word Processing features have only limited impact on Reports. Just
Note text and
Text From Source text will add text styles to Reports. But
Sentence Templates do not support those styles.
The
Sentence Templates are defined in
Tools > Fact Types and can also be customised for specific facts.
See Knowledge Base
Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates for advice.
Reports include the facts that you have entered, so if key BDM dates are being repeated maybe you have multiple BDM facts?

Warning - this is what I do in
v6. When the narrative sentences get all too much, as if they were written by a computer (err, because they were), then I replace the generated narrative sentence by just the note for that fact. To do that, I over-type the narrative sentence for that fact only by:
There will be at least one problem with this in v7 because it's currently not acting on the <para> instruction. This gives you the opportunity to write sensible text in your Fact Notes.
You can also retain some facts but not print them - for instance, while I record Census Facts, I never print them because all the interesting stuff from a census is held against other items such as Occupation.

Yes, that is a useful technique but in FH V7 not only is the <para> code not honoured but also the {note} code converts all new 'word-processor' rich text format to plain text. The alternative is the Report > Options > Main tab Inc. Event/Attr Notes setting that is enabld by default in FH V7 and does honour the new 'word-processor' rich text format.
In FH V7 it is possible to Flag specific Facts as Private and exclude those from Reports.

Ah yes - the {note} is an issue (with its loss of formatting) as well. I forgot.
It may be possible to sort-of-combine - in v6, I find that I can use an over-ride sentence of just:
Then the if the
Inc. Event/Attr Notes setting is checked, it appends the contents of the Note anyway. I have no idea whether this would work in v7, thanks to this issue with <para>.

If you want to suppress the Sentence Template then use the {blank} code, which is its purpose, and works in FH V7.

Ah yes - that's what comes of creeping up on something from the opposite direction and not realising how close you are. Actually, I hadn't realised that {blank} doesn't do a complete suppression at all, because it still allows the Fact's Note to appear if that option is set for the report.
Minor difference between {blank} and <para> - In v6 {blank} doesn't create a new line whereas <para> does. In v6.... (sigh)

{blank} does do a complete suppression of the Sentence Template it exists in ~ nothing else.
Report Options are completely independent, such as all the Event/Attr and various Notes options.

Yes - I suspect my understanding was that {blank} would suppress all of that fact whereas its actual suppression scope is simply that template, which might be just a part of the output for the fact. Now I know better...

Think about it! That {blank} code has no impact on most report types, only Narrative Reports.
To inhibit a particular Fact type in many Report types (including Narrative) there are Options to List Only or Excude List for Individual/Family Events/Attributes and that would inhibit associated Event/Attr Addresses/Notes for the excluded Facts.

Adrian and Mike thank you for your useful input. I will start to see if I have too many BMD and Census AS v.7 sources ( with new plug ins installed) referring to similar events multiple facts which are all citated on each individual Record Window.
Can I practise new FH 7 changes on the Family History Sample Project?

You can practice on the Sample project to your hearts delight -- and reset it from the Project Window using More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project as often as you like.

Thank you for highly recommending practising new Word Processing features on FH7 on the Sample Project - very helpful.
I have also started to add my own Citations using standard Essentials template based on University of Strathcylde methodology. I am looking forward to learning a lot more about new features on FH 7

Just started to use Book and I have been trying to use Free Text option on my second page. I want to create a unique title heading, but after entering the new title the heading.... 'Free Text' keeps appearing at the end of my new title and I can't seem to be able to delete these 2 words without deleting the whole title. I have tried several different ways without success. Do I need to re set Headings in Book somehow? Thanks

Select the free text Chapter Heading in the Current Book Items pane and click the Settings button below.
Edit the Heading there.
Any chapter heading can be edited via the same dialogue.
Click the Help button for advice about the Item Settings dialogue.

1. I have upgraded from FH v.6.2 to v.7 after using AS v.5 for successful entry of BDM & Census records. The copies of the BDH certificates and Census appeared at the end of Descendant Narrative Report after bibliography automatically which I was pleased with.
When I upgraded to FH V.7 I also upgraded to the new AS v.7. Yesterday when I went back to my orIginal Descendant Narrative Reports all the copies of the BHD certificates and Census records have not appeared at the end of any of my original reports. I have checked that all the BHD Certificates and Census are still in Media on V.7 which they all seem to be there. What do I need to do to make them re appear at end of Descendant Narrative Reports?
2. I have noticed that the selection of number of generations can be selected from 1 to 5 on Descendant Narrative Reports but then suddenly jumps to next 10 generations. Can I somehow select either 6 to 8 generations ?
3. Does Free Text page after Contents page on Descendants Narrative Report have a Word Limit on 1 page ?
4.Also can I create any number of subsequent pages after the first page if I need to enter more free text and if so how can I go to the next blank free text pages , thank you.

- Most of the Report Sources options are now hidden the Tools > Preferences > Sources tab under the Generic Source Formats... button.
- Just enter the number 6 or 8 by hand.
- There is no limit to Free Text items other than the size of your disk drive ~ just keep typing for as many pages as you like.
- You can add as many Free Text items as you like but nowhere does it say it is only one page.
BTW: Please update your profile on the right to say FH V7.

Thank you again for your help and advise on answers to my questions 2 to 4.
Item 1 - After I reach the 'Generic Source Format' page as you suggested, which option do I chose to enable me to include copies of BMD and Census at the end of Descendant Narrative Reports? Thank you.

The 'Generic Source Format' options control what text is displayed in footnotes, but not the images. If you want the source images to be included in the report use the Report Options>Sources tab. There you can choose to show Source pictures and/or Citation pictures, and where you want them to be displayed ( it sounds as if you want the Location to be Below All Citations). The size of the source images can also be chosen.

I assumed that since an inherited customised Narrative Report was used that its Source Picture options would be retained, and it was Text From Source, etc, which was missing and that is a tick option under the Generic Source Formats... button.

I think the question is about images, because the questioner said:
copies of the BDH certificates and Census appeared at the end of Descendant Narrative Report
and
I have checked that all the BHD Certificates and Census are still in Media on V.7

Thank you Lorna ,yes you are correct. I have just tried your suggestion in your previous reply timed 13.41 today and it worked on all my projects that I transferred from v.6.2 to v.7 and I can now see all my BMD certificates and Census at the end of each Descendant Narrative Report.

Well, that suggests that FH V7 disturbed the custom settings in your custom Report and switched off Source Pictures when it inherited your custom Report from FH V6. IMO: That is a bug that needs reporting.

Just completed 'Free Text' in a family BOOK Publish using word processing facility. I would now like to ADD the following to to either within the free text word processing text or at the end of free text from items saved in a folder on Windows 10:-
- add pre saved .jpg images in the free text ?
- copies of documents such as transcripts off a gravestone supplied by local council cemetery add at end of free text.?
- how to include references source citations in Book text?
Can you please advise the best way to acheive these extra additions to free text in Books, thank you?

You can't add images in free text, but a good way to include extra media is to create a Blank Chart in the Diagram tools and then add any images you want to include with titles using the insert Images or Insert Text and then include that chart as the facing page to your free text page.
