FH displaying incorrectly in "half-screen" mode

Post by garethhowell » 31 Dec 2020 15:51

I've just upgraded to V7 and am playing around with the test project. I set up the screen to show the help on the RH side of the screen and FH on the left. I think this is called half-screen but could be wrong.

When set up like this (i.e. drag FH to the LHS of the screen) you can only see the right hand side of the FH window and there is no scroll bar to see the left hand side.

I'm not usually a Windows user, so this may be how all Windows apps behave, but it doesn't seem right. Can anybody else confirm this.

For reference, I'm running FH7 in Windows 10 running on a Mac via Bootcamp (i.e. natively not in emulation).

Yes, it is not entirely intuitive, and a scroll bar would be useful, but you may have to prepare in advance.
I assume you are starting from the Focus Window with the Property Box docked on the right.
The simplest solution is to Float Property Box using the near top right button.
Now you will have three floating windows:
1) Main workspaces of Focus, Records, Media, Map window, etc.
2) Floating Property Box
3) Help window

The other option with Property Box docked, is to drag its vertical divider well over to the right before reducing to half-screen display mode.

Thanks, Mike

(I think I'll stick to using a Mac :-)

Not sure if you half-screened this way but I find it the best way for windows.
Full screen (maximise) the 2 apps.
With the first open press the windows key with the right or left cursor key to put the app on the right or left.
The second app can then be set to the other side with windows key with the opposite cursor key.
Just in case you hadn't done it that way. :)

I don't think that was the problem Peter.
It was how to usefully see the contents of the FH half-window!
Did you actually try your suggestion with FH?

I have used it often. Using two screens would be better but splitting it is a good compromise.

So could you please explain to Gareth how to resolve his original problem that he posted on Thursday.

Are you saying that Win10 + Bootcamp doesn't allow you to do this?

I'm sure you can, but if you start with FH full-screen with the Focus Window ~ Property Box division left of central, then when you switch to half-screen only the Property Box will be visible.
As Gareth says: "you can only see the right hand side of the FH window".
Gareth needed advice on how to achieve your screenshot arrangement.

Mike you have described it. The Property Box has to be just less than half a screen width in full screen.
Then when the complete window it is made left/right side, the Property Box width can be altered with the normal drag on its vertical dividing border.
Personally I have never had the Property box greater than about one third of a full window, it shows me enough, but I am not a hugely experienced user so perhaps there are reasons to have it wider that I don't know about.
