Brother/Sister in a Role Fact Sentence

Post by BakerJL75 » 29 Dec 2020 19:29

I'm using this as a role for a sibling in an obit.

{individual} was mentioned as a sibling of {principal} in {=TextIf(%CUR_PRIN.SEX%="MALE", "his", "her")} obituary< printed in the {value}>

Is there a reference or function that will let me replace sibling with brother/sister? I've been looking but haven't figured it out.

Thank you,
Jackie

Are you saying you have two Role definitions for a particular Fact, one is Brother and the other is Sister?
In that case there are two Role Sentence Templates and one can use brother and the other can use sister.

Or are you saying you have a single Role called Brother/Sister and you want to use the SEX of {individual} to select brother or sister?
In this case use %CUR~WITN>SEX% the same as you used %CUR_PRIN.SEX%.
Even better use the =Sex(...) function {=Sex(%CUR~WITN>%, "brother", "sister", "sibling")}
and {=Sex(%CUR_PRIN%, "his", "her", "their")}

BTW: When editing the Role Sentence Template click << Insert Code and choose How to use advanced features... at the bottom, then in the help scroll down to How to Add Data References or Functions to Sentence Templates where you will find references such as %CUR_PRIN% and %CUR~WITN>% etc.

Yes. One role that selects the word brother or sister depending on the sex. It's an obituary fact and I already have a bunch of relationships. I'd rather do one more complicated role than two separate ones just because of how long the role list is getting.

Thanks!

Would it make more sense to name the Role as Sibling?

So did my second solution work for you?
