FH7 Source Templates

Hi all,
I've been working with the new source templates for a couple weeks now, and I've got a handful of questions about it that I can't figure out. I had been using the Source from Template plug-in, so I'm trying to make the Source Templates work in similar ways to how I had been using the plug-in.
1. There is obviously a spot for the Title template. Is there any way to also have a template for Short Title? I know when I use Ancestral Sources that it can use a template but also still have different short and long titles, but I can't figure out how to do that outside of Ancestral Sources.
2. If I include a {date} field in the Title, it shows the full month name (ex. 13 September 2009) instead of the shortened month (ex. 13 Sep 2009), even though I have the standard date format set correctly in FH settings. Is there a way to make the title reflect my standard date format settings?
3. Is there a way to add a standing note to a Source Template? (ex. When using the plug-in, I could enter "No image available" in the note section of sources that I knew would never have images.) Kind of along the same lines, is there a way to set a repository to auto-populate for a certain Template? (ex. If I know a certain source type will always come from the same repository).
4. When I make words italicized, there is always a space before and after the italicized words. How do I make there not be a space? The only way I have figured out is to include it in <>, but if I do that, I also have to include a field code in there which isn't always ideal, otherwise it won't show up.
5. Is there a way to make the Subcategory a field code? (Ex. When using the Civil Registration Index Template, I'd like to make the subcategory the same as the {Type} that I select so that I can organize my sources by Birth or Marriage, etc.). For some reason, this is the one that has been bothering me the most. When using the plug-in, I was able to set the Source Type as a field code which made it a lot easier for me to organize things.
Thanks everyone for your help!
