Facts not linked to Sources after upgrade to FH7

Post by RoyDavies48 » 23 Dec 2020 18:18

Hello,

I have been using Family Historian since about 2003 and have never experienced any significant problems after upgrading to a new version until about a week ago when I upgraded from version FH6 to the new FH7. Now I find that facts about individuals are not linked to the relevant sources.

For example, if I have a marriage certificate for a couple then naturally I recorded that as a source for information about their marriage. However, since the upgrade if I click on "marriage" in the fact list for one individual and then click on "Show Sources" I get a yellow box at the bottom of the source record with the phrase "Sources For" with a thin white box to the right with "Marr. (Ruth): Marriage*" where "Ruth" is the first name of the indvidual concerned.

However there is no mention at all of the actual source which is the marriage certificate!

I am using FH7 on an Apple Mac Power Book with the latest version of Parallels for running Windows 10 applications.

Has anyone any idea about how to get the actual sources to display properly?

Regards,

Roy

Roy, several users are experiencing those symptoms, but it is not as bad as it seems.

Firstly, the yellow Sources For pane that you probably had to the right of the Property Box has moved below.
You can move it back by using the top right cog Menu > Options and change the Preferred Position.
However, you might want to experiment where it is as it contains less than before.

Drag the horizontal divider just above the yellow Sources For pane upwards and more will be revealed.
That will show the Sources and the Toolbar you are largely familiar with.
The new Edit Source Citations button (next to Add Citation) opens a new floating Citation Window.

Shrinking the Property Box above that yellow pane is no longer a big problem as there now is a vertical scroll bar.

Just to add to Mike's reply, the cog menu in the toolbar of the Sources for pane has a Display Citation As sub menu where you can choose to display the Source Record name, as in V6, instead of the Footnote or Bibliography.

Many thanks Mike, and thanks also for the information you supplied Lorna.

I have managed to get the source panel to work (although I haven't tried adding a new source yet). I was very relieved to discover that the sources and citations I had keyed in over the years are still there and are accessible! Yesterday I had seriously been thinking of uninstalling FH7 and re-installing FH6 and using one of my backups from prior to downloading the new version.

I have experimented a bit with the layout and the information about sources and citations and accompanying notes seems better at the bottom of the record than on the right. I think it looks a bit too cramped when it is to the right. That is my opinion anyway. Perhaps I will change it after more experience with the new version.

Thanks again to both of you for your help.

Roy
