Deleting standard query V7

Post by Gary Carson » 22 Dec 2020 13:21

I have both custom and standard queries with the exactly the name.
  • How can I delete a Standard query
  • How can I change the name of a query
If neither option is posible could the drop down down menu be modified to note if the listed query is Standard or Custom?

You could just change the name of your query, to differentiate it from the standard one :D
You need to save your query as a custom query, giving it the new name. Then delete the original

Or you could allocate it to a Custom Facts group.

The Query > All Custom Queries option only lists your Custom Queries.

I have not been able to find away of changing the name of custom query without first saving it with a new name and then deletiing the original custom query. That is a long way around.

I have some standard queries that i' just want to delete as i' never use them and likely will not in the future.

I have a large number of Custom queries and like being able to utilize both Custom and Standard queries in the same group/sub group.

There are some backdoor methods.
In Windows File Explorer visit C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Standard & Custom and with FH closed, delete/rename as desired.
However, the next time FH is installed all the Standard Queries will come back.
So open each Standard Query you don't want and on General tab remove it from all the Groups.
Then it will only be listed under <new/ungrouped queries>.

You can allocate Queries to up to three Groups.

I used the backdoor method to change delete/rename as desired with FH closed. When I reopened FH the file name changes did not appear in the Query drop down list. Rechecked directory under Calico and chnaged file names were as I had renamed them. Reoponed FH and no file name changes in the Query drop down list.

I have just now followed my own advice and it worked perfectly.
In C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Standard\ I changed All Events.fhq to All Std Events.fhq
In C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Custom\ I changed a custom .fhq filename.
I did not even have to close FH and the new Query names appeared in the droplists.

Are you sure you're changing C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\... and not C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian\Queries\?

Are you running a full FH V7 or were you in beta test and still running the FH V7 beta version?

Verified that I was not in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian directory.

When I make the name change I get a popup "File Access Denied". Then select Continue and the name change occurs in the file directory.

If I double click on the newly renamed file name in the directory a Family Historian popup appear asking if I want to install the file as Query. I select OK and the file appears in the <New/ungrouped queries> where I then assign it to a group. The new renamed file also appears in the All Custom Queries... window.

After those changes the original custom query, before any name change, still appears in the group drop down window as an extra query. FH can activate that old query if selected.

That "File Access Denied" error is very wrong because file Security should Allow almost maximum Permissions to Everyone.
If you right-click any file or folder below Calio Pie and choose Properties, then the Security tab should look like below where Permissions for Everyone is all except Full Control and possibly Special Permissions.
I can't help feeling you are operating in the wrong folder. Please paste the full path of the folder you are changing.

Full path This PC>Windows(C)>Program Files>Calico Pie>Family Historian>Queries>Custom

Made security change and eliminated "File Access Denied" error .

NO NO NO Gary !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING

You said you were not using the Program Files folder and you are.
That is the program installation folder you are corrupting and there is no Standard or Custom subfolder there.

This where you should be:

C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Standard\
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Queries\Custom\

See Family Historian Program Data Folder for details.

Do you have Show Hidden Items enabled? ProgramData is hidden by default.

Read the Family Historian Program Data Folder link I provided and it explains what to do...
That is why I gave it and said it has details.

Made Hidden Files visable and will go back to square one. If I run into any more questions will get back.

Thank you for your guidance.
