FH Map Cache folders

Post by jbtapscott » 22 Dec 2020 07:27

I've noticed my backup is including a large number of small files for the map cache folders similar to "C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Map\Cache\Standard OSM\8\75\95.png". Looking at the individual files, they appear to contain small segments of maps (Tiles ?) and, from a backup perspective are mostly incremental backups but with a fair smattering of full (viz.) new backups.

I'm not overly concerned about the backups per se (in terms of space or time to process), but with sometimes 600+ files listed in my backup log, I am at risk of loosing site of any issues with "real" files (e.g. my Outlook pst files, etc). As these are cache folders I am guessing they would would be re-built if needed (I don't do much with mapping in FH, but just pass the Lat/long details from the Place record to GedSite), so could I safely exclude the folder from my backup process?. You are correct they can be excluded from backups.

The Backup and Restore FH Settings plugin automatically excludes them from backups, but includes Windows Registry settings for FH.
