Configuring Name fields on Main tab

Post by E Wilcock » 18 Dec 2020 14:35

I may have forgotten how to do this. But with apologies, I could do with some help please.
In fh 6 I had an extra Name field (custom added) at the top of the property box which showed any second name entered.
For women this was their married name. For emigrants any new name taken when German names were changed.
If I add that second name field to fh7, I get a duplication of the birth name.

The birth name is repeated even where a woman has married and should have a married name

In the custom Expression, you have omitted the index [2] on the NAME tag, i.e. %INDI.NAME[2]%
That refers to the 1st Alternate Name but it is actually the 2nd NAME field instance.

If you just use %INDI.NAME% or %INDI.NAME[1]% then that refers to the birth Name field.

May be not worth bothering with this now?
It isnt essential, if you are busy. I have regressed to total beginner.

I can customis Property Box and configure for name [2] but nothing shows as there is no Name[2]
In Version 6 the second name that showed there for a woman, was her married name.
So I configured to show married name.

And she still doesnt have anything showing even when the woman has a husband.
For convenience I am looking at Katya Mann born Katya Pringsheim wife of Thomas Mann

If I click the extra names pane, she doesnt have that married name listed there.
But on a chart she shows as married

If there is no Alternate Name in the Names & Title dialogue window then it can't show on the Main tab.

Temporarily, try adding an Alternate Name. Does it show on the Main tab?
Now delete it. Does it vanish from the Main tab?

If that all works then your Property Box customization is correct.

I cannot explain why the Alternate Name entries have vanished after upgrading your Project to FH v7.0.

Maybe in FH v6, you did not customize the Alternate Name but used the Husbands Surname?
Your Property Box customizations should have imported to FH v7 but need enabling in the Customize Property Box dialogue as explained in the FH Help in Notes on Upgrading to Version 7 under How to Restore Property Box Customizations by using the Old Versions button.

Evelyn, You raised this issue in August but it is not clear from that topic whether you did eventually display women's married names. It looks as if you were just displaying the first alternate name: Name and name 2 on Main Tab of Property box (18003)
