Upgrade via S&N Genealogy

Post by GallowayLass » 15 Dec 2020 18:05

Hello, I have just now upgraded from 6.2 via an email from S&N genealogy. I purchased v6 from them on disc last year with a free upgrade to v7 when it was released. I thought I had done everything correctly but when I opened the programme after installation to enter my licence key, I spotted something in the title bar that worries me. It said something along the lines of that this was a limited version. It was only there for a split second so I didn't get to read it properly. Also, I did not need to enter my product key from the email, it was there autofilled in.
How can I tell when I open the programme again that I actually have the full product? Many thanks.

Welcome to the FHUG.

In FH use Help > About Family Historian... and at the top it lists your Account and Licence activation.

I believe the activation key applies to all versions of FH that you legitimately have acquired.

Hi Mike and thanks for the welcome.
I clicked on "About Family Historian" and it shows my name and account name and the words "Licence activated". The version at the top is 7.0.0 so presumably if it was a trial or otherwise limited thing, this is where it would say so.
I have yet to install it on my old MacBook (using Parallels). I will keep an eagle eye on what appears at the top on the menu bar there :-)

I got the 30 day trial and it is obviously time limited, then it became the full version once I added the Licence key. That is maybe what you saw. I have always had to download the 30 day trial when I have wanted to re install FH and then add my licence key to activate it. It makes sense because if CP distributed an unlocked version it would still be doing the rounds, where as letting someone download the 30 day trial means if you don't have a key you can't unlock it and 30 days later it is locked.
