One is advised to Press F1 to get help on any aspect of FH7.
but can anyone tell me where to find help on creating a custom diagram, as F1 is as good as useless in this area.
I have a specific diagram I wish to create, which displays 5 generation of Ancestors on a single a4 page, simply by moving boxes around on the page. With a bit of work, I may even get 6 Generations on a Single sheet of A4
If I start with a 5 generation Ancestor chart, to get all the elements I want onto the page, I am severely limited in how to move the individuals around. For example, I can't move parents alongside or below child, they must appear above.
What I wish to achieve is shown below, where numbers indicate Ahnentaffel number of root "1":
Any suggestions as where to start

Have a look at the Ancestors Left to Right (Bow Tie) chart.

Unfortunately, the standard bow-tie is for Ancestors on the left and Descendants on the right.
(Unless you have a custom Ancestors only bow-tie chart.)
Whereas Mike wants Paternal Ancestors on the left and Maternal Ancestors on the right, with no Descendants at all.

Grab a copy of the https://fhug.org.uk/kb/download/compact ... or-tree-3/ and break it apart using the ungroup option, you can then move the boxes around and add your lines etc and save it as a new custom diagram type.
If you look a the format for the boxes you will see how they link to the individuals based on the root.

Thank you Jane, it did cross my mind to do just that, and have dissected a fan chart, to see how they get the boxes to relate to each other, and have nearly cracked it.
All I need to do now is find out how to ‘attach’ intelligent lines (Coonector) to the boxes, so they move with the boxes and stay attached. There doesn’t seem to any other lines except simple ones -perhaps I’ve overlooked something obvious, but I’m getting there.
There seems to be a lot more to charts that didn’t make into the help file, but trial and error will win through in the end.

Not strictly true! I just wanted the ability to place the individuals wherever I wanted them on the page in a compact format (initially to save paper
I’m getting there, and will soon have a readable 6 generation chart, that will fit on an A4 sheet of paper!
