FH7 - Media Missing
I've updated to 7 from 6. No media is shown. Would be very grateful for advice.

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
How did you perform the update?
Did you install FH v7.0 directly over FH v6.2 on the same PC?
Or have you moved to a new PC at the same time as upgrading to FH v7.0?
If this is the case then it is the move rather than the upgrade that has upset the media.
Are you using a Project or a freestanding GEDCOM file?

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
1. All media missing or just a few items?
2. Check that media items are in the folder where you normally put them.
3. FH7 uses the same procedure to link media as FH6 i.e. Tools > External File Links...
4. The file links will reveal missing media and you may need to Auto Repair Links or change the filepath.
See Family Historian Help > Work with External File Links Dialog.
If it is just a few items that need fixing then Media > View All Media. You can click on the missing media and edit Title and/or File (the filepath). Much the same as FH6.
A filepath example C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Family Historian Projects\My Project here\My Project here.fh_Data\Media...
'your user name here and 'My Project here' are user specific. You may have a different name for Media and/or additional folders. This assumes you are working with a Project.

Sorry to add to the bombardment of questions, but a stray thought: were you using embedded media within the Gedcom, or external media files. It's unlikely to be embedded media but it's worth checking with you anyway.

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
Please clarify "no media is shown".
Where have you looked? The Records Window Media tab? The Media Window? Tools > External File Links...?
Are you saying absolutely no media exist anywhere?

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
This is a problem I have been having. Not a single media was listed after my upgrade also many names were disconnected from other people and were just on it's own.
Happiy I have managed to sort this out by opening my back up. This winzip listed a number of details. I prompted the most likely one and it went part of the way then a message asked if I wanted to try the next one, I hesitated but then risked it. This continued with the opening. It stopped again and asked the same question. This happened 5 times. Happily it then said it was upgrading to V7. To my relief once it finished all the media files were there and no names were on it's own.
Have you checked some names to see if they were on it;s own i.e. no spouse or parents.
Needless to say I am relieved I haven't lost anything.
I have upgrasee all the previous versions of FH and never had this problem before

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
Hello Mike
Sorry lack of clarity
What I should have said is that no media is linked to any record. The media files do exist in fh_Data\Media.
I have manually added a few files to an indiviual, and they appear in the Media Window and the External File Links dialogue.
1040 files - such fun!
Best wishes
Ken

Re: FH7 - Media Missing
Follow Victor's lead. If you have a recent Full Project Backup from FH v6.2 then use that.
Use the File > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup... command and select the latest backup ZIP file.
If not that, then do you have other backups of your Family Historian Projects folder?
With FH v7.0 closed, try restoring that folder from backups.
Also, please report your symptoms to Calico Pie via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php to help prevent it from happening to others.
