Expressions to display age at death icons seem straightforward and I may get round to implementing them some day. I suspect that my death in war/military service icon is more complex as the only common factor is the death. There is nothing in the citation, source title or text to connect a civilian death in the London Blitz with the death of a seaman in the Crimea or a soldier in Mesopotamia. The flag serves very well for that purpose.
I wrote this 5 years ago when I was learning to change from flags to expressions, (and I have indeed implemented the expressions for under-age deaths). But I still retained some flags, as in this instance to attach a poppy icon to any death in war or military service. Now we can no longer have flags, how can I use an expression to indicate this? I have got as far as inventing an Event for Death in War, and then I am stuck! I cannot write expressions from scratch.

You can still have flags. All that has changed is that the Ancestral Sources program by Nick Walker, which many people use as an aid to data entry, no longer supports flags. He felt it was not necessary to make the effort to incorporate this in the new version of AS, because for many years expressions have been a more efficient way of displaying icons in diagrams for censuses.
Your existing flags will all still be there. Are you just having a problem displaying the associated icon in diagrams? Perhaps you need to move the icons to a different folder. This is from the new Help files:
"You will need to save the icon in a sub-folder of the 'Icon's folder, in the Program Data area for Family Historian. On most installations this is located at C:\ProgramData\CalicoPie\Family Historian\Icons."

I am still using flags, and flags in diagram/charts to show and icon in v7. Where does it say we cannot use flags?

Ah, thank you! I had somehow got hold of the idea that v7 had done away with flags. I've never used AS to enter flags, and all my icons are in the right place, so I can relax and carry on as before!
